Fire has razed a section of Dunukofia Local Government Secretariat in Anambra State, destroying a lot of files and property belonging to the Local Government Area.
Anambra State Fire Chief, Mr. Martin Agbili, who confirmed the fire incident, said the State Fire Service received a distress call at about 6:53pm on Wednesday and he immediately deployed a fire truck and gallant firefighters to the scene at Dunukofia secretariat, Ukpo, where they controlled and quenched the fire.
According to him, the cause of the fire was a bush fire which was started by unknown person (s) which gradually escalated into the Local Government Council Secretariat.
He said though his men were able to control and extinguished the fire and prevented it from destroying a lot of things at the Local Government Council, files and other property of the local government were still destroyed.
The firefighting operation lasted till about 8:30pm, according to the fire Chief, before the situation was calmed.
Agbili warned citizens to always clear all bushes around their environment, especially in this dry season and harmattan to avoid eventualities, insisting that fire destroys but can still be prevented.
