Protesters Storm EFCC Office, Demand Release Of Ex-Kwara Gov Ahmed

 

Members of the Kwara State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Wednesday, stormed the office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Ilorin, the state capital, to protest the continued detention of former Governor Abdulfattah Ahmed.

The placard-carrying protesters chanted songs in Yoruba Language to show their displeasure and express solidarity with the detained ex-governor. Some to the placards bore inscriptions such as ‘EFCC, stop the persecution’, ‘Gov Ahmed was transparent’, amongst others.

The protest was staged despite strong security presence at the zonal office of the anti-graft agency.

Channels Television had reported Ahmed was quizzed by EFCC investigators on Monday over transactions running into billions of naira during his time as governor of the state.

The former Kwara governor, who arriving at the Ilorin office of the anti-graft agency on Monday morning, was yet to be released as of press time.

Ahmed is currently answering questions as to how these monies under his administration were spent.

Ahmed was governor of the North Central state between May 2011 and May 2019 before he handed over to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.

Ahmed’s Chief Press Secretary, Wahab Oba, had in a statement on Monday, said his principal’s visit to the office of the anti-graft agency was not only a routine and procedural one.
