Nigerian rapper and actor Ikechukwu Onunaku has confirmed his separation from his wife, Ella, following their lavish wedding in Lagos in May 2021.
Ikechukwu gained recognition for his 2009 song “My Name is Ikechukwu,” and as an actor starring in popular films like “The Wedding Party,” he revealed the scoop in an Instagram Live interview with media personality Daddy Freeze.
He explained that the reason for their breakup was not infidelity but rather irreconcilable differences.
He said that although he had made attempts to keep the marriage intact, his wife’s actions had finally driven him to the brink. He stressed that the best course of action is to end a relationship rather than turn to cheating to satisfy one’s desires.
“My wife and I are no longer together,” he declared. We separated due to irreconcilable differences. It wasn’t over infidelity. There was too much gaslighting, fault-finding, and influence from outsiders. I advocate for ending a relationship rather than cheating and pursuing personal happiness.”
During the live, Ikechukwu revealed details about the breakdown of his marriage, citing issues of gaslighting, fault-finding, and external influences as contributing factors.
“I attempted to salvage our marriage, but I reached a point where I couldn’t tolerate my ex-wife’s behaviour any longer, and I revealed my true feelings, which we couldn’t reconcile,” he said.
Ikechukwu also highlighted instances where he felt emasculated and underappreciated, ultimately ending their union.
“I don’t have time for chaos, but I become vulnerable when I’m in love. Sometimes, the issues that Killz overlooks, Ike ignores. At a certain point, Ike couldn’t handle it anymore, so Killz stepped in to protect him. When Killz intervened, she realised she had taken Ike for granted because she didn’t appreciate Killz.”
“I tried my best, and I invested everything I had. The woman tried to emasculate me, always making me feel inadequate.”
Ikechukwu encouraged couples to put their health first and think about ending a relationship if there is a lot of toxicity or infidelity, despite the difficulties.
Ikechukwu reflected on his commitment to love and loyalty, emphasising his unwillingness to betray his partner. Still, he also acknowledged that, in the face of marital difficulties, he must put his own happiness and mental health first.
Ikechukwu Onunaku is known to be multifaceted in the music, film, and fashion industries, and goes by the stage names Ikechukwu and Killz.
