Rivers Reps Member Declares Support For Fubara

A member of the House of Representatives from Rivers State, Boniface Emerengwa, has declared support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, denouncing his long-standing political alliance with former Governor Nyesom Wike.

Emerengwa who represents Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency made the declaration during a visit to Governor Fubara in Port Harcourt on Monday evening.

According to a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, the federal lawmaker condemned the struggle by some politicians to be recognised as leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the political leaders of the state instead of the governor even when the party and the nation’s constitution explicitly bestowed such roles on elected governors.

Emerengwa who was first elected in 2015 also commended the achievements of Governor Fubara in the state, saying that he deserves the support of the people to grow the state.

Governor Fubara, while accepting the pledge of loyalty from the federal lawmaker, said that his government will never be distracted from delivering on its promises to Rivers people.

L-R: Awaji-Inombek Abiante (PDP, Andoni/Opobo-Nkoro), Gov. Siminalayi Fubara, Boniface Emerengwa (PDP, Ikwerre-Emohua), Boma Goodhead (PDP, Akuku-Toru/Asari Toru) and Anderson Allison (APC, Okirika/Ogu-Bolo)

His decision brings to five the number of House of Representatives members openly supporting Governor Fubara out of the 13 members in the green chambers from the state.

Other lawmakers in the House of Representatives who identify with Governor Fubara are Awaji-Inombek Abiante (PDP-Andoni/Opobo-Nkoro), Boma Goodhead (PDP-Asari Toru/Akuku Toru), Anderson Allison (APC-Okrika/Ogu/Bolo) and Umezuruike (Labour Party-Port Harcourt Constituency 1).

This new pledge of allegiance is coming on the heels of other resignations by politicians across the local government areas including that of the Leader of Obio/Akpor Legislative Council and the councillor representing Wike’s Ward, Achor Nna.

Although President Bola Tinubu has reached a truce between Governor Fubara and his predecessor Wike who is also the Minister of FCT,  both camps seem not to be losing sleep over their political structures.

On Sunday, Wike boasted of his political strength to continue to defeat his opponents in Rivers State.
