LP Decries Insecurity, Economy, Seeks Tinubu’s Intervention

The Labour Party (LP) has decried what it described as worsening insecurity and economy, calling for urgent intervention by President Bola Tinubu.

There has been an increase in the spate of killings across the country, leading to the loss of innocent Nigerians. On March 14, 17 military personnel comprising the Commanding Officer of 181 Amphibious Battalion, two majors, one captain, and 13 soldiers of the battalion — were gruesomely murdered while on a peacekeeping mission at Okuama community in Ughelli South Local Government Area (LGA) of Delta State.

Since there, there has been a series of attacks ranging from banditry in the North-West, terrorism in the North-East, and calls for secession in the South-East, and parts of the South-West among others.

Worried by the situation, the LP wants Tinubu to quickly take drastic steps to tackle the issue. The party argued that the security situation of the nation has not improved.

LP made the call in a communiqué issued at the end of the party’s national convention held at Grand Season Hotel, Nnewi, Anambra State on Wednesday.

“The Convention hereby calls on the President as the commander in chief of the armed forces to secure the lives and properties of Nigerians, which is the primary responsibility of the government,” the communique signed by the party’s national chairman and secretary Julius Abure and Umar Farouk Ibrahim, partly read.

“The Convention in session also noted with concern the renewed insecurity in the country, especially Kaduna, Plateau, Benue, and other states.

“The Convention also calls for general restructuring of the security architecture to meet up with current security challenges facing the nation.”

According to the party, Tinubu should be proactive to save the economy from total collapse and put Nigeria on the path of growth and development.
