Shaibu was recently impeached by the Edo State House of Assembly, ending months of tussle between him and Governor Godwin Obaseki over the former's move to contest the Edo Governorship election.
The Edo State government has pulled down security posts around former deputy governor, Philip Shaibu’s house along Aideyan Street, G.R.A, Benin, the Edo State capital.
The state commissioner for communication and orientation, Chris Nehikhare who spoke to Channels Television on Monday, explained that the security post was not part of Shaibu’s residence.
He noted the state government had given the former deputy governor the privilege to enjoy extra security presence around his house before now, however, that has since been withdrawn following his impeachment from office.
Nehikhare said the state government had recently embarked on a series of demolition exercises, to remove all illegal structures without government approval.
According to an eyewitness account of the incident, a bulldozer had come to pull down the security canopy opposite Shaibu’s residence at about 5: 00 pm on Sunday evening.
He said most of the security personnel attached to Shaibu had been removed, leaving only a few personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigeria Police around at the time of the demolition exercise.
