Radda Unveils 60 Katsina Football Academy Players, Calls For Diligence

The players categorised into under 16, 18, and 20 age groups for a special tournament were chosen from each of the 34 local government areas of the state.


 

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has unveiled sixty (60) players for the state football academy as part of measures to promote sports and youth development. 

The players categorised into under 16, 18, and 20 age groups for a special tournament were chosen from each of the 34 local government areas of the state.

Speaking during the ceremony held on Friday at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium, Governor Radda restated his commitment and willingness to support the academy.

 

Represented by the Chief of Staff, Government House, Katsina Jabiru Tsauri, the governor urged the unveiled players to be diligent.

“We are proud of what the academy has been doing. Already we have seen the mark of progress and achievements recorded in what they are doing within the span of time they have started.

“Already, we have about five players, three of which are in foreign land playing professional football, and two are already representing us in the national teams. We hope that their families will also support the players as well,” Tsauri stated.

The Chairman of the Katsina Football Academy Ahmed Muhammad who spoke through the Sports Director of the Academy Shamsuddin Ibrahim said over twenty-five local coaches engaged by the academy were scouted and trained on modern football techniques.

“Even our coaches were scouted and couched for three days by the US Expert, Daniel Dodge. Over 25 coaches were trained in the exercise

“So, you can see how we identified the talents and we have the right coaches, and we are providing the right sports equipment.

“In less than a year, precisely seven months, we have participated in many scouting programs and our players were scouted by some foreign Scouts.

“In the coming months, one of our players is traveling abroad to a club in Europe.

“We also have some players that went on to represent Katsina United in Benin in NPFL under-17 where two of them were screened and invited to the national team, the future eagles of Nigeria under-16 where they went for their screening and later were invited to the team, they even played in Morocco for the super eagles of Nigeria under-16.

“These are a few of the success stories we have achieved based on a scouting programme we went to in February,” he added.

The ceremony was attended by important personalities including the state’s Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development Aliyu Zakari, parents, government officials, and well-wishers, players were presented with jerseys and training kits.

The Commissioner eventually led dignitaries to also inspect the game and classrooms of the academy, the players’ hostels and the sickbay.
