Residents living along the Gbarain area of Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State were greeted by a loud sound of explosion suspected to have emanated from the gas processing plant operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC).
The sound of the explosion which generated a lot of panic and speculations in the community is alleged by the locals to have emanated from the gas processing plant that feeds the Nigerian Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) export terminal in Bonny Island, Rivers State.
Our correspondent reached out to some residents of the community who confirmed that the explosion indeed emanated from the suspected gas plant.
However, the Spokesman of SPDC, Michael Adande, has stated via a phone call that the explosion occurred near the gas facility, not inside the gas facility and the cause of the explosion is yet to be confirmed.
