A group in Katsina State has organised Peace and Unity Cup Football Competition in honour of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Musa.
The competition, expected to be organised annually to foster peace and unity among 32 Top selected clubs within Katsina, was tagged “CDS Peace and Unity Cup Competition” to ensure total peace across the nation and Katsina State in particular.
All matches are scheduled to be held at the Army Barracks playground as arranged in the fixtures and presented during the competition draws which took place today, Sunday 30th June 2024.
As specified in the competition rules, the competition shall be played on a knock-out basis out of which all the matches must end on the same day.
In a press briefing held on Sunday at the Katsina Township Stadium, the Competition Coordinator, 2024/First Edition, CDS Peace & Unity Cup Competition, Katsina State, Lawal Katsina maintained that, if the match ended in a draw – then penalty kicks shall be played to determine the winner at the end.

He explained that, unlike other competitions, this was planned to be conducted free of charge to enable all the invited clubs to participate.
According to him, the Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa expressed his zeal, determination, and readiness to contribute towards promoting sports among the teeming youth in Katsina State as a result of hi s love for the people of the state despite coming from another state.
“The organizing committee wishes to assure all the participating Clubs of their readiness to organize a hitch-free and enjoyable Competition without any sentiment or injustice to any team,” he said.
Katsina solicited the support and cooperation of all the club officials to deliver as promised, as the Organizing Committee would not hesitate to disqualify any indisciplined team, official, and or supporters who violate the rules of the competition.
He further stated that there are some prizes earmarked to be presented to the winning teams as follows:
(a) From the 32 participating clubs, all those eliminated during the first
round are going to be given one pair of football by the organizers in
appreciation of their cooperation and participation in the competition.
(b) All the remaining 16 teams that scaled through from first-round
encounters are going to be given one set of jerseys on the final day.
(c) The winning team is eligible for a giant gold-plated cup, plus a
cash prize of N200,000.00 and a set of jerseys.
(d) 2nd Position – N100,000.00 and a set of jerseys.
(e) And many more gifts to be presented to other players.
