Army Chief Pledges To Address Security Threats In South-East

The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to tackling security threats in the South-East in line with constitutional provisions and the military code of conduct.

The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja said this on Thursday at the closing ceremony of the Second Commanding Officers’ Workshop 2024 during which he also commissioned projects at the Nigerian Army 6 Division Headquarters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Lt. Gen. Lagbaja who was reacting to the recent security concerns in the South East where soldiers were killed by yet-to-be-identified gunmen, reassured that the army is dedicated to handling these threats professionally.

“The army will continue to respond to all security threats in accordance with laid down constitutional provisions and the procedure in our book. The soldiers will respond in line with our code of conduct and rules of engagement. And so for all threats to security, the army will respond appropriately,” the Army chief said.

On what he described as “reduced security activity” in the South-South, he lauded the army for ensuring calmness in the region.

During his visit, Lt. Gen. Lagbaja was received by the General Officer Commanding the 6 Division and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force South-South Operation Delta Safe Major General Jamal Abdusallam.

He also inaugurated several projects, including a ten-family unit, quarters for corporals and below, the 6 Division Python Shopping Mall, and a swimming pool signage. He also inspected ongoing projects.

The army chief emphasised the importance of the Second Commanding Officers’ Workshop, which according to him provides essential training for military officers.
