The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Interior Abdullahi Ahmed has hailed President Bola Tinubu for signing the North-West Development Commission bill into law.
Ahmed, who represents Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency in the Green Chamber, described the signing of the bill into law as a decisive step to pull the region back from the brink.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Assistant on Media, Sardauna Francis, the lawmaker said the signing of the bill into law has demonstrated Tinubu’s commitment to building the nation on the fulcrum of fairness, justice, and equity.
He said the Commission would undoubtedly facilitate the reconstruction of roads, houses, and business premises destroyed by multidimensional crisis, and mitigate poverty in the seven Northwestern states of Katsina, Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, Sokoto, and Kebbi. The lawmaker added that the establishment of the Commission would create more opportunities for development in the North-west, and accelerate solutions to other myriad of challenges beleaguering the agrarian belt of the nation.

He therefore urged the government to ensure that people who will be saddled with the responsibility of running the Commission are knowledgeable, creative, and innovative for sustainable development to thrive. The legislator, however, admonished stakeholders in the region to put all hands on deck to ensure the teeming people of the area have the dark clouds of underdevelopment removed from their environment.
He said: “I extend my warm appreciation to the President and Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for signing the bill into law.
“By assenting the bill into law, President Tinubu has shown that he has the foresight and the goodwill to develop Nigeria. This law will promote inclusive governance and bring development closer to our people.
“I, therefore, urged leaders and people of the North-West to see the signing of the North West Development Commission Bill into law by our president as a call to action that will enable us to come up with stirring solutions to our challenges.” the statement added.
Tinubu recently signed bills creating the Northwest Development Commission (NWDC) and the South East Development Commission (SEDC).
