While youths in some parts of the country have gathered for the nationwide protest, Bayelsa State youths have heeded the call of Governor Douye Diri to abstain.

Their abstainence has generated praise from the governor, who hailed them for their commitment to peace.

Governor Diri claimed that the protest in the state is being sponsored by politicians who lost in the 2023 governorship election, and are attempting to cause chaos through the nationwide protest.

The governor made these remarks during his weekly prosperity walk with political appointees and supporters.

The walk started at the Bayelsa State Government House and proceeded along the major streets to the Samson Siasia Sports Complex.

At the sports complex, the governor and his team participated in various exercises.

He then encouraged residents of the state to continue their legitimate activities and reject any calls for protest.

This is as reports say the streets of Minna, the capital city of Niger State, also remained peaceful on Thursday as security personnel were deployed to strategic locations across the city.

The increased security presence comes after recent protests in the area, however, today, protesters were noticeably absent.

Despite the visible security measures, residents went about their daily activities without interruption.

Commercial activities remain upbeat, as the Minna main market and some shops were open for business as usual.

The heavy security presence is believed to be a proactive measure to prevent any potential unrest and maintain law and order in the city.
