DSS Arrests Tailors Suspected To Be Mass-Producing Russian Flag In Kano

The Department of State Services (DSS) says it has arrested some tailors suspected to be mass-producing the Russian flag in Kano State.

In a statement on Monday, the DSS said some of the sponsors have also been apprehended.

The agency posted on its X handle, that the “Service has apprehended some tailors in Kano State responsible for making Russian flags being distributed in the area. Some of their sponsors have also been picked. An investigation is ongoing.”

It also denied arresting the National Coordinator of the Youth Rights Campaign Adaramoye Michael Lenin who strongly criticised President Bola Tinubu’s address to the nation in the wake of the protests.

“The DSS can confirm that Adaramoye Michael (aka Michael Lenin) is not in its custody,” it said.

The move came in the wake of some #EndBadGovernance protesters carrying Russian flags in several northern states. It is unclear why the demonstrations are holding onto the flags.

Earlier police authorities had arrested some persons suspected to be mass-producing the flags in Nasarawa State.

The demonstrators were spotted flying the flag while chanting songs in Hausa, and running through the streets in protest.

Protesters Defy Plea, Looting Mars Rally

This latest round of protests came after President Bola Tinubu addressed the nation, urging the demonstrators to retreat.

Tinubu said he heard the protesters “loud and clear”, urging them to stop the rallies which began owing to the harsh economic conditions in Nigeria.

Inflation has reached 34 per cent in Nigeria, pushing the cost of living beyond millions. But Tinubu is calling for patience, saying his reforms would yield results eventually.

But undeterred, the protesters resumed their demonstrations in several parts of the country, saying the government has not addressed their demands.

Security operatives had imposed curfews on some cities and states owing to the looting and destruction that greeted the protests in some areas especially in the northern region of Nigeria.
