The Minister of Petroleum, Heineken Lokpobiri and his team from the Nigeria Midstream, Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Agency, have paid a condolence visit to the governor and people of Jigawa State over the unfortunate petrol tanker incident that claimed over 170 lives in the Majia community.
The minister described the incident as the most tragic event in recent times with such a huge loss of human lives, and noted that drastic steps will be taken by his ministry to prevent such reoccurrence.
“We are deeply concerned about this development in the state. I think this is the most devastating one we have seen in recent times, and we are doing everything to prevent things like this. A few days ago specifically on Monday, the Corps Marshall of Road Safety came to me, and we had discussions with the view of complementing the efforts of NNPP”
He further noted that they have outlined some measures for maintaining proper certification of tanker vehicles.
“As we speak today, we have road safety attached to all our deport so that vehicles will be certified road-worthy before they depart from each of our reports,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to desist from scooping fuel whenever there is a tanker explosion.

“I call on Nigerians to also see the danger of going to take products anytime there is any accident anywhere not to go near. We have a lot to do in enlightenment campaigns. Today is a very sad day for Nigeria, for Jigawa state and all those who have lost loved ones in the incident”
He also urged all governors to join hands to educate Nigerians on the dangers of petrol accidents and scooping of fuel.
