Fallen Tanker: Troops Avert Major Fire Disaster In Rivers State

The operation was conducted in collaboration with sister agencies with all safety protocols strictly adhered to.


 

Troops of the Nigerian Army, 6 Division, have averted a major fire outbreak in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital after a tanker loaded with petrol fell on the road. 

The tanker had fallen at Rumuokwuta Roundabout in the capital city, but the swift action of the troops averted what could have been a tragedy.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma.

He said the Acting Commanding Officer of the 760 Transport Battalion Major Al-Mustapha Shawwal Adams swiftly mobilised troops and led the 6 Division Fire Crew to the scene, preventing a potential inferno.

He said the operation was conducted in collaboration with sister agencies, with all safety protocols strictly adhered to.

The area was cordoned off, and preventive measures were promptly implemented, ensuring no loss of life or property.

“This fire prevention effort underscores the Nigerian Army’s commitment to civil-military relations and community support,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, the General Officer Commanding of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Jamal Abdussalam has commended the troops for the swift response.

He reassured Rivers State residents of the resolve of the Division under his watch to continue to carry out people-centric operations.
