Rep Member Empowers Women With Sewing Machines In Sokoto

The lawmaker says this is targeted at enabling women to stand on their feet and support not just themselves but their families as well.

Over 10,000 women have become entrepreneurs through an empowerment programme to liberate them from the shackles of poverty.

The programme which was initiated by a federal lawmaker representing Gada/Goronyo Bashir Gorau is targeted at bringing succour to the people of the troubled eastern region amidst the rising cost of living, and insecurity that has left many in poverty over the years.

The lawmaker says this is targeted at enabling women to stand on their feet and support not just themselves but their families as well.

He noted that empowered women contribute to economic growth, social progress, and a more equitable society. Gorau believes when women are empowered, they inspire others and create a ripple effect of positive change in their communities and beyond.

This support will ensure that women become self-reliant, encouraging genuine economic activities.

Over one thousand women benefitted from the first phase of the programme. More are equally to benefit from grants and support to small and business enterprises.
