1,200 Adolescent Girls Receive Sanitary Kits In Katsina

 

At least 1,200 adolescent girls drawn from twelve selected Junior Secondary Schools across Katsina State, received a day lecture on hygiene carried out by the Katsina State Development Fund otherwise known as Gidauniyar Jihar Katsina.

The students mostly drawn from Jss 3 classes, were also given donations of reusable sanitary kits as part of measures to complement the efforts of the present state administration for the well-being of girl-child in the state.

The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Fund, Ibrahim Karfi, while speaking during the closing ceremony held on Wednesday at the Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Kambarawa, Katsina otherwise known as Sir Emeka Offor), described the sanitary and hygiene programme as a vital component of the fund’s ongoing efforts for the well-being of adolescent
girls in the state’s Junior Secondary Schools.

He explained that the initiative was made possible by the generous donation of a patriotic philanthropist, whose commitment to Education and Youth/Women Development is truly commendable.

He recalled that Gidauniyar Jihar Katsina was established in 1991 with the mission of providing philanthropic and charitable services, particularly in the areas of Education, Health, and Economic Development within Katsina State.

“Over the years, we have successfully intervened in social development projects, including significant contributions to Islamic/Western Education, Agric, Healthcare, Women & Youth and Water Sector. Our efforts have reached thousands of people, especially in rural areas, with a focus on Education and Social Development.

“So far, in this year 2024, we have intervened in nine healthcare centres by donating medical equipment and furniture. While under the water project, we constructed three hand-pump boreholes (one each in the three senatorial zones).

“Under Islamic education, we intervened by providing one-day training for 36 Imams and donation of Android tablets with fully installed Islamic books and applications for enhancement of Islamic knowledge. We also donated Islamic textbooks, rubber mats, and building materials to 42 Islamiyya/Tsangaya Schools spread across the State.

“Under Western education, we donated reference books (Science & Arts) to six selected Senior Secondary Schools, also a provision of 120 sets of two-seater to six selected primary schools and training of 306 primary school teachers.

“Under youth development, we have successfully trained close to 400 youth on Digital Marketing and a ten-day training on skin/leatherwork to 102 participants.

“The final leg of the Women and Youth Development Programme among others is the disbursement of 400 sanitary pads to four selected schools to each senatorial Zone of the state and disbursement of 361 Renewable Stoves to Female Roadside Food Vendors (e.g., Awara),” Karfi noted.
