The Libata community in Ngaski Local Government Area of Kebbi State is experiencing heightened tension due to a land ownership dispute at a mining site.
The Kebbi State House of Assembly’s Committee on Solid Minerals Development and Mining recently visited the site following a petition from Libata community leaders, seeking to address conflicts arising from mining activities.
Youth in the community have become polarized, aligning themselves with two competing mining companies. Those supporting the established company accuse supporters of the new company of threatening their livelihoods and attempting to take over operations, creating a division within the community that local leaders fear could lead to conflict.
The House Committee, led by its Chairman Aminu Abubakar Gulumbe, toured the mining site to assess operations and held discussions with community members and representatives from both companies—Three Crown Mines Limited and El-Tahdam Company.

Gulumbe assured the community that the committee is dedicated to achieving a fair resolution, urging the youth to remain calm as the committee works toward a solution.
To facilitate dialogue, the committee plans to convene with Libata’s village and district heads, religious and traditional leaders, and company representatives.
This commitment was further underscored by a visit to the Emir of Yauri, Muhammad Abdullahi, who pledged his support for the committee’s efforts.
Ngaski Local Government Council Chairman Manir Abubakar commended the committee’s proactive response, expressing hope that justice would be served for both the companies and the Libata community.
