Tems Leads Nigerian Artists with Three Nominations in 2025 Grammys

Acclaimed singer-songwriter Tems leads the pack of Nigerians nominated with three nominations at the 2025 Grammy Awards.

Tems, whose real name is Temilade Openiyi, has been nominated for Best Global Music Album for her debut studio album “Born in the Wild,” Best Global Music Performance for her hit single “Love Me Jeje,” and Best African Music Performance.

Burna Boy, who often refers to himself as the “African Giant,” won his first Grammy in 2021 for his album “Twice as Tall” and has received multiple nominations over the years.

Wizkid, fondly called “starboy” by his loyal fanbase, won a Grammy for Best Music Video for his collaboration with Beyoncé on “Brown Skin Girl” in 2021.

Davido has also been nominated for three Grammy Awards, including Best Global Music Album for “Timeless,” Best African Music Performance for “Unavailable” featuring Musa Keys, and Best Global Music Performance for “Feel”.

Other notable Nigerian Grammy winners include Sikiru Adepoju, who won in 2009 for his work on the “Global Drum Project,” and King Sunny Adé, who received his first nomination in 1983. Femi Kuti, son of the legendary Fela Kuti, has been nominated multiple times, showcasing the enduring legacy of Afrobeat music.

In addition to Grammy recognition, Nigerian artists have also been celebrated at other prestigious international awards. For instance, Burna Boy has won several BET Awards, Wizkid has received accolades from the MTV Europe Music Awards and the Billboard Music Awards, and Davido has won several international awards, including two BET Awards for Best International Act: Africa and two MTV Europe Music Awards for Best African Act. His contributions to the global music scene have earned him a loyal fanbase and critical acclaim.
