Katsina Govt Inaugurates Committees To Monitor Herders’ Movement

 

The Katsina State Government has set up an ad-hoc committee to monitor the movement of herders in the state. 

Also inaugurated, was the state standing committee for the protection of electrical installations and other public properties against vandalism otherwise called (GYARA KAYANKA).

The Secretary to the State Government Abdullahi Faskari inaugurated the two committees in his office at the State Secretariat Complex, Katsina on Tuesday.

The terms of reference for the ad-hoc committee on herders/farmers include among others: conducting a sensitization drive to inculcate peace and harmonious co-existence between herders and farmers; monitoring the movement of herders into the state and ensuring their peaceful transit and exit.

Others include: synergise with the affected local government council, traditional institutions, and the Fulani Cultural Associations in the state, on modalities to avert farmers-herdsmen clashes, proffering any recommendation to assist in averting farmers/herdsmen clashes; and co-opt any other person to assist in the discharge of the assignment.

On the other hand, the terms of reference for the state standing committee for the protection of public properties against vandalism include among others; undertaking public radio and television sensitization on the negative effect of the menace; to liaise with traditional, religious, and community leaders on guidance and counseling of irritant youths undertaking vandalisation of assets and installations; and to engage the state association of iron scavengers by setting in stringent measures for handling scrap items.

Other terms of reference include: offering any other recommendations that will assist the government in addressing the menace in the state; co-opt any other person(s) that will assist in the discharge of the assignment; and submitting a periodic report to the government.
