Enyimba have sacked Head Coach Yemi Olarenwaju after a woeful run of games for the Peoples Elephant.

The record-Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions had gone nine games without a win, prompting Enyimba to wield the big stick.

“Enyimba FC can confirm that it has parted ways with head coach Yemi Olarenwaju,” the club said in a Saturday statement posted on their social media platforms.

“The club thanks Coach Olarenwaju for his services and wishes him the best in his future endeavors.”

Enyimba appointed Olanrewaju in May after George Finidi left for his unimpressive brief spell as the Super Eagles head coach.

Olanrewaju was in charge of Enyimba for 26 matches, recording nine wins and seven losses.

His sack came days after the nine-time Nigerian champions’ goalless draw with Plateau United in the NPFL.

The Aba-based side have failed to win their last nine matches in any competition, drawing six of their last league games. They have only managed one win in 10 NPFL outings. Enyimba are 11th in the domestic league after 15 matches with 23 points.

On the continent, the Peoples Elephants have struggled too. They are at the foot of the ladder in Group D of the CAF Confederation Cup having only gotten one point from three games.

Meanwhile, the club has named Stanley Eguma as the new head coach. He was part of the team’s coaching crew in the early 2000s when Enyimba won two CAF Champions League crowns.

He is expected to bring his wealth of experience to bear for the People’s Elephant and revive their fortunes both domestically and on the continental scene.
