Karu Bridge fire on March 19, 2025
President Bola Tinubu has called for a thorough investigation into the tanker explosion that resulted in multiple accidents and loss of lives in Karu, Abuja, on Wednesday night.
The President condoled family members who lost loved ones in the inferno and ordered priority treatment of the injured in various medical facilities in the capital city.
In the statement signed by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President directed security agencies, particularly those concerned with road safety, to pay closer attention to traffic around the capital city’s entry and exit points.
President Tinubu prayed for the souls of the departed and the grace of the Almighty God to comfort families that have lost their loved ones.

Channels Television reports that some vehicles were razed on Wednesday when a petrol-laden tanker exploded on Karu Bridge, along the Abuja-Nyanya-Keffi Road in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), resulting in a massive fire.
The fire destroyed at least 30 vehicles and prompted a significant emergency response. Some motorists were also feared dead in the fire.
The incident happened when a Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) truck lost control, crashed into Karu Bridge, and ramped into some vehicles, leading to an explosion.
Eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos as motorists and passengers attempted to flee the area to avoid the advancing flames.
