Katsina Police Command Celebrates National Police Day

The celebrations are designed to recognize the sacrifices and dedication of police officers, promote community policing, and foster partnerships between the police and the public.


 

The Katsina State Command, under the leadership of Bello Shehu, on Wednesday held a stakeholders/town hall meeting as part of activities lined up to commemorate the National Police Day celebration at the Police Officers’ Mess, Kangiwa Road, GRA, Katsina.

The celebrations are designed to recognize the sacrifices and dedication of police officers, promote community policing, and foster partnerships between the police and the public.

The occasion brought together key stakeholders, including Katsina State Government officials, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organisations, NUJ and NAWOJ officials, PCRC, and women’s organisations, among others.

The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, Shehu, delivered a keynote address, highlighting the significance of National Police Day and the importance of community policing and collaboration.

At the interactive session, officers engaged with community members, and stakeholders discussing ways to improve policing services and build trust.

On his part, the Zone 14 Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Aliyu Abubakar Musa charged senior officers and DPOs to always carry the youth along in their operations to achieve the desired result.

He, however, encouraged the general public to expose and report to the command any police officer found misbehaving in the line of duty.

The State Police Command will on Thursday, April 3rd, 2025, commence community engagement, community sanitation and other community services at the Katsina Central Market.

This will be followed by medical outreach at Kangiwa, opposite the Kofar Soro Area in the State capital on Friday, where a team of medical doctors will be deployed to render medical services such as immunization, medical check-ups at no cost.

Similarly, school outreach will be conducted on Saturday to lecture students on the dangers of engaging in crimes such as drug abuse, kidnapping, thuggery, and other social vices. This will be followed by a road walk on Sunday.

Earlier, during the meeting, which lasted for over an hour, Stakeholders stressed the need for the command to include visitation to remand homes and hospitals in its program of activities.

They observed that, rules of engagement as well as police and civil engagement should be looked into consideration, stating that, officers deployed to rural communities, should be taught manners of handling civilians.

Stakeholders, however, decried the shortage of police officers in the country.

In particular, the Chairman of the Katsina State Chapter of the Blind People Association, Garba Nahuta, stressed the need for the State Police Command to give special treatment to children of persons living with disabilities in the police recruitment exercise as it is being done before.

On her part, the Chairperson, High Level Women Advocate, Katsina State, Mariya Abdullahi, commended the efforts of the police in combatting crimes in the State, urging them to put more effort into arresting the kidnappers as they know their hideouts to ensure crime crime-free society.

“Police should check the services of officers collecting revenue,” she added.
