In a notable development within Cross River State’s political landscape, Emana Ambrose-Amawhe, the 2023 deputy governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Amawhe tendered her resignation from the PDP on March 28, 2025, signaling the end of a long-standing affiliation with the party. Her formal entry into the APC was marked by a warm welcome during the 61st birthday celebration of the First Lady of Cross River State, Eyoanwan Otu.

The reception, hosted at Governor Bassey Otu’s residence, was attended by key political figures, including the Cross River State APC Chairman; the governor, his wife, and other party stakeholders who publicly welcomed Amawhe into the their fold.

Expressing her appreciation, Amawhe said, “Their Excellencies welcomed me into the progressive family today during the celebration of Her Excellency’s 61st birthday. I am honored to be part of a team that stands for development, unity, and real progress.”

Party leaders described her defection as a major political gain, applauding her courage and commitment to public service.

A renowned media professional and development advocate, Amawhe was a central figure in the PDP’s 2023 gubernatorial campaign. Her move to the APC is poised to influence political dynamics in the state as preparations for future elections begin to take shape.

In a letter dated March 28, 2025, and addressed to the chairman of the Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State, Edem Odo Ward, the former deputy governorship candidate, explained that the resignation was with immediate effect.

According to Amawhe, her decision to leave the party was not made lightly, adding that she remained committed to serving her community and contributing to the progress of Cross River state and nation in other capacities.
