UK Maintains 99% Duty-Free Access For Nigerian Exporters

The United Kingdom has reiterated that 99% of Nigerian exports will continue to enjoy duty-free access under its Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS).

The British High Commission in Nigeria made the declaration in a post on its official X handle on Thursday.

“Our commitment to UK-Nigeria Economic growth remains strong.

“Nigerian exporters can continue to benefit from the UK’s Developing Countries Trading Scheme which offers 99% duty-free access on goods,” the post read.

The scheme is designed to boost trade with developing countries in order to support their development.

It cuts tariffs, removes conditions and simplifies trading rules for 65 developing countries, including Nigeria.

The DCTS was introduced by the UK government in 2023 to replace the it’s Generalised Scheme of Preferences (GSP).

The DCTS is a simpler and more generous preferential trading scheme which has been designed to boost trade with developing countries in order to support their development.

It benefits UK businesses and consumers by reducing the import cost of thousands of products from around the world.
