A security expert, Charles Omole, on Tuesday decried the security challenges facing the country.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Omole said state police is not the solution to Nigeria’s problems.

“What are we focing on? State police. State police is not a panacea to or problem,” he stated.

“The situation here is that we have the state police which many politicians are canvassing for.”

According to him, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, as well as previous police chiefs were against the idea of state police.

Rather than state police, Omole, also a lawyer, said the solution is “state focused policing.”

“This can be put in place within six months. Each state would be told to produce the state policing plan which will be a five-year plan.

“That plan would be sent to the IGP who would get his own team to vet and approve, then the National Police Council will approve.”
