Senate Leader Dismisses Alleged Plot To Remove Akpabio

The Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, has dismissed reports of an alleged attempt to remove Senate President Godswill Akpabio, calling them misleading and designed to create unnecessary tension within the National Assembly.

Speaking during plenary on Wednesday, Bamidele clarified that no discussions or plans have taken place among senators regarding Akpabio’s removal.

He emphasized that the Senate remains united and focused on pressing national matters rather than being distracted by false claims.

“There was no attempt by any of our colleagues, nor any discussion about removing the Senate President from office.

“We are fully united and have a zero-tolerance approach to distractions because there are urgent issues of public importance that need our attention. Reports like these are clearly meant to create confusion,” he said.

The clarification came in response to remarks by Senator Orji Ozor Kalu of Abia North, who had recently referenced previous unsuccessful attempts to impeach the Senate President.

Bamidele reaffirmed that there is no intention within the Senate to consider the removal of any of its leadership members, underlining the chamber’s cohesion and focus on governance.
