okezie ikpeazu, Abia State,The Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, says he will ensure a free and fair election in the local government areas’ primary election to deepen democracy and accelerate development across the state.

He gave the assurance on Thursday ahead of the election that will hold on December 17.

The Governor is optimistic that a free and fair election will spread democratic participation and dividends.

Governor Ikpeazu, who has received information on skirmishes witnessed at some locations, condemned all acts of violence and sued for peace in the forthcoming election.

He also hinted that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), had structures in place for those who would feel aggrieved after the elections to appeal the outcome of the primaries.

“It is important to note that for many years the state has not conducted polls to elect officials at the third tier of government.

“Many have waited for the opportunity to put themselves up for election.

“Also, as the dominant and ruling party in Abia, the interest of aspirants to vie on the Peoples Democratic Party platform is not strange. We must maintain absolute neutrality in the contests to select Peoples Democratic Party’s candidates.

“I have not endorsed any aspirant, therefore, any claim to such endorsement is false. I will only endorse dully nominated party candidates presented by the Party. This is to ensure a level playing ground for all participants in the election.

“Therefore, I urged winners and losers to continue to conduct themselves peacefully,” he added.
