The Founder, Slum2School Africa, Orondaam Otto, has lamented the high rate of uneducated teachers in schools across the country.

He faulted the lack of education among teachers as a major problem affecting children in schools.

“Most children are in schools but are not learning because their teachers are not educated.

“The teachers are teaching the children outdated, irrelevant subjects and courses, which means we confuse schooling for education”, he said.

Mr Otto who was one of the speakers at The Platform Nigeria explained that the school systems in Nigeria are designed without taking into cognisant the skills and potentials of every child.

He regretted that Nigeria’s education system is not engaging the children mentally, “these children are just thought to memorise and how to pass exams.

“Schools are not teaching children to think or how to think, they are teaching them what to think, you have children going to schools but come out as robots”.

He linked the issues to an increase in unemployment, “If children are not prepared for the future, we are going to have a huge crisis”, he added.
