The Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed the planned coalition by some political heavyweights, including ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election, saying it is bound to fail.
Wike said this on Wednesday during the commissioning of the Arterial Road N16 (Shehu Shagari Way) from Ring Road 1 (Nnamdi Azikiwe Way) to Arterial Road N20 (Wole Soyinka Way) and other roads in the Katampe district of the nation’s capital.
The FCT minister hinged this on President Bola Tinubu’s “good works” since assuming office in 2023.

“Your good work has killed the coalition. I was thinking that, truly, there would be a coalition,” the FCT Minister said.
“The coalition is bound to fail, and it has failed,” Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, said.

At the event, Tinubu hailed Wike, a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who was instrumental to his victory in the 2023 presidential election.
Wike backed Tinubu during that election and was offered a ministerial appointment despite still being a member of the PDP.
However, the president says the APC will welcome Wike whenever he is ready to join the ruling party.

“We have somebody—Nyesom Wike—he is not a member of my party (APC), not yet,” Tinubu said.
“But the day he changes his mind and registers with the progressives, we will welcome him. Because we will enjoy singing ‘as e dey pain dem, e dey sweet us’.”
President Tinubu’s remarks drew laughter and cheers from the audience, including Wike himself.
Wike has since backed Tinubu for re-election.
