The Federal Government has given the assurance of the safety of all corps members across the country during the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

This was made known on Wednesday at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

This is in reaction to the rejection by some newly posted corps members to some troubled states in the North Eastern region of the country.

Answering questions from state house correspondents after the FEC meeting, the Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, said the government places premium on safety of corps members, adding that it was the responsibility of the government to ensure they are safe wherever they are deployed.

Following the outcry that greeted the posting of the young graduates to the troubled states, the House of Representatives on Tuesday ordered the NYSC to stop the posting of graduates to volatile states in Northern Nigeria.

Dicon bullet proofs

Council also agreed that it will be unpatriotic for any security agency in the country to continue to import bullet proofs with the commissioning of the Defence Industry Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) production factory and other textile wares for the Nigerian Armed Forces.

Speaking on the military hardware production in Nigeria, the Acting Minister of Defence, Mrs. Olusola Obada, said the era of the nation’s total reliance on foreign suppliers for the country’s security needs are over.

Nigerian military has recorded huge success in production of hardware with the production of a locally designed and constructed Seaward Defence Boat by the Nigerian Navy.

An Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) has also been produced by the Nigerian Army Engineering Corps.
