The Senior Special Adviser on Public Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr Doyin Okupe, has prophesized that the new year will be a prosperous year for Nigerians and it will be the year that the nation’s glory shall blossom.

Dr Okupe made the prediction on our breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, which focused on an appraisal of the federal government’s performance for the outgoing year.

Despite the numerous disasters, insurgencies and challenges that plagued the nation in 2012, the President’s aide claimed that the federal government has recorded huge successes in areas of employment, infrastructure and power amongst others.

He gave a positive forecast for the coming year, saying the coming year will be the year of Nigeria’s glory.

“2013 is the year of Nigeria’s glory, the president has said it, good things are coming to Nigeria, the future is very bright and very good…. there will be light, there will be power” he stated.

This is coming just after President Goodluck Jonathan, on Sunday promised Nigerians that his administration would perform better in 2013 and improve on their welfare in all aspects. The President gave the assurance while speaking shortly after he had laid the foundation stone of the Living Faith Foundation’s Bible College in Kaduna.

The president’s aide reeled out some plans the government has for the new year which includes a commercial farmers scheme for unemployed graduates.

“In 2013, the administration will implement a Young Graduates Commercial Farmers Scheme, which will absorb 780,000 graduates in its first phase and provide an estimated four million jobs in the agricultural sector in the first year” he said.

Some of the achievements of the Jonathan administration in 2012 according to Dr Okupe, are that “the administration at the end of 2011 earmarked 22 airports for rehabilitation and reconstruction and by the end of October this year, over 50 percent had been commissioned for public use with. The remaining 11 would be completed in 2013.”

“In addition to remodeling, government will also in early 2013 begin the construction of five new airport terminals in Lagos, Kano, Port Harcourt, Abuja and Enugu as well as six cargo terminals to be managed under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) Scheme,” Okupe said.

He urged Nigerians to be hopeful for a better year in 2013 as foundation had already been laid for it this year.
