European-Union-and-Ebelechukwu-ObianoA joint team from the European Union and UNICEF are seeking partnership with the wife of Anambra State Governor, Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, in the area of sanitation and hygiene to tackle the issue of open defecation identified in two Local Government Areas in the state.

The leader of the delegation, Dr. Kabiru Abbass made the request at a meeting between the team and Governor Willie Obiano, who received them on behalf of his wife at the Governor’s lodge in Amawbia.

At the meeting, the joint delegation also announced the nomination of the Governor’s wife as EU-UNICEF Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, WASH, Ambassador.

This contribution, however, drew the attention of the European Union and the UNICEF to which they sought partnership with CAFÉ to enhance the war against open defecation status in Anambra East and Aguata.

The EU and UNICEF team visited Anambra State Governor to intimate him of the endorsement of the wife’s programme, intention for partnership and her nomination as WASH ambassador.

APGA National Chairman Calls For Probe Of South East Elections

APGAThe National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has called on the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, to set as a priority after his swearing in, the probe of the general elections in the South East.

Mr Victor Umeh, who made the appeal, also called for a comprehensive electoral reform.

Several candidates, who lost in the election, complained and pointed accusing fingers against opposing political parties.

Several complaints trailed the House of Assembly re-run election of last Saturday, April 18, in Anambra State, in which candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party won three out of the four seats that were contested for.

The inconsistencies in the April 11 House of Assembly election in Anambra state led to the cancellation of 32 wards and 500 polling units in four state constituencies of Anocha 1 and 2, Aguata, and Ekwusigo.

Mr Umeh also maintained that the leadership of INEC should expunge all unwholesome characters in the commission, disallow the use of adhoc staff, whose names are submitted by candidates as well as ensure that those who commit electoral fraud are not announced winners, thereby subjecting the actual winner to the rigours of reclaiming their mandate through the court.

Anambra Assembly Poll: Voters Revolt Over Stolen Result Sheet

anambra state-voters revolt on electionThe House of Assembly re-run in 32 wards and 500 polling units in Anambra State has been conducted amidst complaints of electoral fraud and malpractice.

Several inconsistencies during the April 11 House of Assembly election led to the cancellation of the poll in 32 wards and 500 polling units spread across Anaocha, Aguata and Ekwusigo Local Government Areas.

At a primary school in Egbema Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area, where there were three polling units with over 500 registered voters each, accreditation with the card reader was successful. Though, the turnout of voters was not impressive.

The situation was not the same at Umuoru Hall in Uga ward 1. The center had five polling units but voters were at daggers drawn fracas with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials who they asked to produce the result sheets.

The suspicion of the missing result sheets was created by the two Supervising Presiding Officers posted to the unit who suddenly disappeared with their cell phones switched off.

The people accused some of the political heavy weights in the community, who they felt were battling for supremacy, as responsible for the electoral fraud.

Uga ward 1 had 25 polling units. The incumbent Senator representing the Anambra South senatorial zone, Senator Andy Uba, as well as the incumbent member of the House of Assembly, Honorable Ikechukwu Umeh, were both registered voters in the ward and are in different political parties.

As the war raged on, many voters left while some in polling unit 023 continued with accreditation.

However, the Presiding officer succumbed to the intense pressure of cancelling the election in Umuoru as the calls he put across to his superiors ended with him writing a report on the election that couldn’t hold due to disruption by party agents.

While voting was successfully done at polling unit 005 at St Peters, voters at Umumonye Hall did not see any INEC official or ballot materials and they were not given any reason for the disenfranchisement.

Obiano Thanks Anambra Residents For Voting APGA

Anambra
Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano

Anambra State Governor has thanked the people of the state for voting massively for the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in last Saturday’s House of Assembly election in the state.

Delivering the thank you message in a Special Broadcast at his Aguleri residence in Anambra East Local Government Area (LGA), Governor Willie Obiano said the gesture had massively renewed, re- invigorated and re-validated the sacred mandate the people had given him and his Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke, to build a better state as well as a nudge to them to shape the future of Anambra state.

He said the victory of APGA in the House of Assembly election had exposed the large scale fraud perpetrated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the presidential and National Assembly elections of March 28.

Governor Obiano said the PDP also made same attempt during last Saturday’s election, but was nipped in the bud, leading to the cancellation of the election in five state constituencies.

He however, urged the people of the state in the affected areas to be vigilant and ensure that their constitutional rights of deciding who represents them is not tampered with, while pledging maximum security towards a peaceful, free, fair, and credible election on Saturday, April 18.

INEC has rescheduled the elections in Ekwusigo, Anaocha and Aguata LGAs.

Obiano Reiterates Commitment To Infrastructural Development In Anambra

obianoThe Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has reiterated his commitment to infrastructural development in the state, assuring the resident of Orumba North and South Local Government Areas that his administration will continue with road projects in the area.

During a tour of the communities in the Local Government Area, Governor Obiano said the Anambra State government had spent over 47 billion Naira on road construction in the area within the past eight and half years.

Communities in Orumba North and South Local Government Areas are seen as the food baskets of the state, but the needed good roads to move their produce from their farms to the markets in the cities are lacking. The government is looking to provide good roads in the area to aid transportation of goods.

The Governor made a stop over at Mbaukwu in Awka South Local Government Area to sympathise with a domestic fire accident victim, Mr Friday Alagbo.

He said the state government would offset the hospital bills, but warned citizens to be careful in handling flammable materials, even as the state government had commenced with revamping the state’s fire fighting system.

At Ezira, in Orumba North Local Government Area, the reception was heartwarming, giving way for the people to solicit state government assistance to tackle poor road in their local government.

A Local Government Chairman highlighted some of their achievements in line with the vision of the state government as contained it its economic blueprint.

Governor Obiano, addressing the people, assured them that the construction of the 11.3 kilometer Ezira-Umuonyia-Achina road, which connects Orumba South to Aguata, would soon begin.

Obiano urged the people to continue supporting his political party, the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), as the 22 billion Naira already spent on road infrastructure in the local government would only be a tip of an iceberg.

The Governor also visited Ajalli, in Orumba South. Addressing a gathering of residents, Governor Obiano said that over 25 billion Naira had been spent on road construction in addition to interventions in schools, hospitals and other key sectors.

He also urged the people to give APGA candidates total support in the forthcoming elections, to maintain the tempo of good governance in the Local Government Areas.
