Police Arrest Four Suspects Over Possession Of Illegal Firearms In Katsina


Police in Katsina State has arrested four suspects in connection with possession of two AK 47 rifles with empty ammunition.

In a press briefing, the spokesman of the state police command, SP Gambo Isah told reporters that “On 11/12/2019 at about 22:00hrs, information was received that the following suspected persons:

Alhaji Haruna Sani, m, aged 65yrs, Ibrahim Rabi’u, m, aged 54yrs, Alhaji Abdulrahaman Harisu, m, aged 40yrs and Anas Harisu, m, aged 23yrs were in possession of the prohibited firearms.”

He said Operation Puff Adder, led by O/C SARS Katsina, swiftly swung into action, mobilized to the location and arrested the suspects, adding that in the course of investigation suspects confessed to the crime and led policemen to the scene where two AK 47 rifles with breech numbers 406071 and 1413174 D60 were recovered.

One of the suspects, Alhaji Haruna Sani confessed to having seized the firearms from suspected bandits that attacked their villages sometimes in the month of December 2018 but refused to hand over the seized weapons to the police in fear of the unknown.

The command believed that its unwavering commitment towards the protection of lives and property of citizens in the state is yielding a positive result, noting that this fit was achieved as a result of robust community policing engagement through the process of dialogue, visibility policing, unrelenting and aggressive counter crime strategies.

Police Dismantle Kidnapping Network In Kaduna And Environs

Police, kidnappingThe Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Nigeria Police has smashed an 11-man kidnap gang that had for some time terrorized Kaduna State, the FCT and other North-Central States of Nigeria.

This dare devil criminal gang was responsible for the abduction of the Sierra-Leonean Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Maj. Gen. Alfred Claude-Nelson on June 30, 2016, the Executive Director of Dangote Group and many other high profile kidnap for ransom in recent times.

The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Don Awunah, revealed in a statement on Tuesday that the modus operandi of these criminal elements includes mounting road blocks on highways in Military uniforms, surprise attack on unsuspecting motorist and relocating from one point to other in the forest with their victims to avoid detection and arrest.

He stated further, “In order to halt the apparent trend in the increase of kidnap for ransom, armed robbery and other anti-social behaviours, the Inspector-General of Police, Ag.IGP Ibrahim Idris, NPM, mni has reorganized the tactical operations teams to tackle crime and criminality throughout the country.

“To this end, the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the IGP Monitoring Unit, the Nigeria Police on July 2, 2016 carried out tactical surveillance of the Abuja-Kaduna axis and all the adjoining States.

“This coordinated operation led to the arrest of eleven members of the notorious gang that has been terrorizing the North-Central States of the country with arms and ammunition recovered from them.”

The suspected kidnappers in Police custody are:

  6. Usman Bello ‘m’ Aged 20yrs
  7. Musa Ali ‘m’ Aged 45yrs
  8. Muhammadu Abubakar ‘m’ Aged 30yrs
  9. Suleiman Abubakar ‘m’ Aged 25yrs
  10. Gambo Ibrahim ‘m’ Aged 25yrs
  11. Balarabe Mohammadu ‘m’ Aged 32yrs

The Intelligence Response Team Operatives also recovered three (3) AK 47 rifles, three (3) AK 47 rifle magazines loaded with 90 rounds of ammunition and two (2) sets of Military camouflage uniforms.

The Police say investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court as soon as it is concluded.

Similarly, the Ag. IGP Ibrahim K. Idris has ordered the same Intelligence based operations throughout the federation to flush out all criminal elements.

Also, the IGP has directed the State Commissioners of Police and Technical/Operation Commanders to improve the response rate on issues of crimes and criminality, assuring law abiding citizens of protection of their fundamental human rights.

Ag.IGP Idris has assured all members of the Diplomatic community of their safety and adequate security in Nigeria.

He also reiterated that crime prevention, management and control must be approached from the perspective of collective responsibility.

Troops Clear Boko Haram Terrorists Out Of Biggoro And Warpaya

Troops-Boko-HaramTroops have killed two Boko Haram members and rescued two children as they clear terrorists in some villages of Bama Local Government Area.

A statement by the Nigerian Army spokesman, Colonel Sani Usman, said that troops of 7 Division Strike Group Team B and 22 Task Force Brigade made the feat.

This was achieved while they conducted a simultaneous dawn raid on suspected Boko Haram militants’ hideouts in Biggoro, Warpaya and Aura North of Kumshe in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State, northeast Nigeria.

The essence of the operation, according to the statement, was to stop the reported criminal activities of remnants of Boko Haram terrorists hiding in the three villages.

“This became necessary as previous efforts were futile (and) the suspected terrorists kept coming in search for food, water and shelter.

“The surprised dawn attack yielded positive result as the troops discovered well concealed observation posts on trees in the villages constructed by the terrorists, to give them early warning of troops movement or approach.

“In addition, the troops found out that the observation posts on tree tops, were constructed in such manner with chairs and ropes to pull up foods and other needs by the sentry without necessarily coming down the trees.

“To also save for the rainy day, the terrorists had underground food storage facilities where they stocked large quantity of foodstuffs,” the statement read.

The Nigerian Army also revealed that three AK-47 rifles, magazines, ammunition and two motorcycles were recovered from them.

Army Arrests Notorious Kidnapping Gang In Abia

Kidnapping GangMen of the 14 Brigade Nigerian Army, have arrested a notorious kidnapping gang which has been operating between Aba and Ohafia in Abia State.

The soldiers also rescued their victim who is currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed medical facility.

Items recovered from the suspects include two AK-47 rifles, loaded with 124 rounds ammunition, and cash up to about 5,490,000 Naira amongst others.

According to the Brigade Public Relation Officer, Major Sidney Mbaneme, the victim had already paid the sum of six million Naira demanded by his abductors but was shot on the leg when he identified one of them.

Major Sidney warned criminals and notorious gangsters to stay away from the state because the brigade is leaving no stone unturned to flush them out.

He urged all residents of the state to be vigilant and report any suspicious character within their domain.

Army Kills 23 Boko Haram Members, Rescue 150 Hostages

Army-Troops-The Nigerian Army has disclosed that 23 Boko Haram terrorists have been killed, while 150 hostages rescued as Nigeria/Cameroon troops continue to clear out terrorists’ hideouts.

The Nigerian Army says that in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s directive for troops to maintain the momentum, troops of 7 Division carried out major operations against the Boko Haram terrorist’s locations in Talala and Kumshe axis of Borno State.

According to a statement issued by the acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman, during the joint operation between elements of 7 division and the Cameroonian forces along Banki-Kumshe axis, 20 Boko Haram terrorists were killed.

He also revealed that the troops destroyed 4 AK 47 rifles and captured a gun truck mounted with an anti-aircraft gun (AA gun) and 2 AK 47 rifles, as well as a 60mm mortar and a Dane gun.

Police Uncover Illegal Arms Factory, Arrest 33 Robbery Suspects In Kaduna

policeMen of the Kaduna State Police Command, on Friday, stormed an illegal arms manufacturing factory at Kogun village in Jemaa Local Government Area of the state.

During the raid, several guns and ammunition were recovered and two suspects were arrested in connection with the illegal business.

The State Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu, while parading the suspects before newsmen at the Kaduna Police Command headquarters, said that the illegal gun manufacturers were arrested, following a tip-off from members of the public who alerted them of the nefarious activities of the suspects.

The Police Command also paraded 33 robbery suspects for car snatching, terrorism and illegal possession of fire arms at different parts of the state.

The Police Commissioner disclosed that his men had arrested an armed robbery syndicate that has been terrorising travellers at Dangwa village, and Kachia area of the state after a gun duel that lasted for several hours with his men.

According to him, four stolen vehicles, assorted charms and several dangerous weapons were recovered from the suspects.

It was also reported that at other operations, the other suspected robbers blocked the major highways at Abuja, Kaduna, Zamfara and Kogi states, snatching cars and cattle at gun points, as some of the suspects confessed.

He reiterated that the command would not relent in its fight against criminals and criminality throughout the state, urging the public to cooperate with the Police by reporting criminals and their activities to the command.

Other items recovered from the suspects include; four locally made AK-47 rifles, several locally made pistols, Police coloured AK-47 magazines and over 40 live special revolver ammunition and cartridges.

Some of the suspects have denied their involvement in the crime, saying the manufacturing of the weapons were not meant for clandestine purposes.

While all the suspects remain in Police detention, the Commissioner gave the assurance that on completion of the investigation, they would be charged to court.

Police Nab Cattle Rustlers, Armed Robbers In Kano

Police Nab Cattle Rustlers, Armed Robbers In KanoKano State Police Command has arrested some perpetrators of various crimes in the state, which include Cattle rustlers, armed robbers amongst others.

The Police arrested a suspect, Yahaya Sale (popularly called Narigasa), for allegedly stealing over 100 domestic animals in the state and some neighbouring states in Nigeria’s north region.

For almost four years, Sale and nine other members of his syndicate have continued to terrorise local communities in the state, carting away their Cows, Sheep and sometimes kidnapping their wives.

Revealing the arrest on Wednesday, the Kano State Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Idris, confirmed the death of one member of the syndicate during an encounter with the Police around Falgore forest in the state.

Mr Idris disclosed that about 197 Cows were so far recovered from Sale and other members of his gang, adding that 31 other suspected Cattle rustlers had been arrested and charged to court.

In Sumaila Local Government Area of the State where the Fulani Cattle rustlers were arrested, residents pointed out cow robbery as a major threat in the communities.

The 30-year old Sale confirmed to reporters that they had stolen about 30, 000 Cattle and Sheep in Kano and other neighbouring states in the north.

“I joined this gang four years ago and since the, we have stolen about 30,000 Cattle in Kano and beyond. We also steal to sell and use the money to drink, womanise and do other dubious characters,” he said.

Similarly, the Police Commissioner noted that his men had arrested one notorious Local Bandit in Kano State, Taju Kabiru, who had been on the Police Wanted List for three years.

Kabiru along his group members, were said to have gotten involved in violent clashes during which two persons were killed and several others injured.

In another development, the command’s spokesman, Magaji Majia, confirmed the arrest of another suspect, Hauwa Mustapha, who allegedly organised a gang of armed robbers from Jos, Plateau State capital, to carry out robbery operation in the commercial city of Kano.

Mr Majia said that the suspect was first arrested in 2011, for renting an apartment to kidnappers of Nigerian Footballer, Mikel Obi’s father.

After serving her jail term, Hauwa was allegedly said to have resumed crime as several weapons including AK 47 rifles were recovered from the suspect and her group members.

The command affirmed that all the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution, as soon as investigations into their alleged crimes were completed.

Suspected Fulani Herdsmen Kill 8 In Kaduna

Borno AttackAt least eight persons were killed and 12 others injured when some gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen attacked Yangal-Fadan village in Zangong Kataf  Local Government Area (LGA) of  Kaduna State.

An eyewitness said the gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen stormed the community in the late hours of Tuesday night when the residents had gone to bed, shooting indiscriminately and burning down houses.

The gunmen who reportedly came with AK-47 rifles and numbering over 20, also burnt down yam barns and domestic animals before escaping into a nearby bush before the arrival of security operatives.

Although the state police command is yet to confirm the incident, the caretaker Chairman of Zangong Kataf LGA, Mr Jonathan Asake, who confirmed the incident to reporters, said the gunmen carried out the deadly attacks around 11:00pm on Tuesday night.

He disclosed that the 12 injured persons were rushed to St. Louis Hospital, Zonkwa, about 15km from Yangal village for treatment.

Governor Muktar Yero, who was on a campaign tour in the southern part of Kaduna State when the incident occurred, condemned the attack.

In a statement by his Media Aide, Ahmed Maiyaki, the Governor said the attack was an apparent attempt by miscreants to cause conflict and confusion in the state and to heighten tension among the peaceful people of the state.

The governor said it was rather sad that some people would stop at nothing in achieving their selfish goals including shedding the blood of innocent citizens of the state.

He also directed the State Emergency Management Agency to immediately move to the affected community to provide victims of the attack with necessary support and assistance and promised to settle the hospital bills of those injured in the attack.

He also called on people in the affected community to remain calm as security agencies were already investigating the matter with the aim of bringing the perpetrators to book.

Meanwhile, adequate security personnel have been deployed to the area to maintain law and order.

Several villages in the southern part of Kaduna State have witnessed series of deadly attacks that have left about 4,000 people dead and over 20,000 displaced from their ancestral homes.

Most of the attacks are suspected to have been carried out by herdsmen and cattle rustlers.

Imo Police Arrests Suspected Murderer Of Customs Officer

The Imo State Police Command has arrested a 25 year old man, Mr Mishack Osuala who is alleged to be the prime suspect behind the murder of his uncle, a Customs officer, Mr Mishack Ugwuoha.

Mr Ugwuoha, an Assistant Comptroller in the Customs was killed few months ago in his country home at Umuchoke Amaigbo, Nwangele Local Government Area of Imo State.

Parading the suspect at the Police Command Headquarters in Owerri, the Imo State capital, the Imo State Police Commissioner, Mohammed Katsina, told newsmen that his arrest followed an intelligence report gathered from strategic partners who have been keeping an eye on the suspect since the murder of the customs officer.

Making an open confession, the suspect claimed that it was not their intention to kill the Customs officer but was forced to when his late uncle tried to break away.

The police boss also paraded over 30 suspected criminals for various crimes, ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery, gun running amongst other crimes. He said that the arrests were as a result of the success of “Operation PUFADA” launched in the early weeks of September to reduce the high level of crimes especially during the ember months.

He added that the Police are hotly on the heels of one Okechukwu Uzoma, a 30 year old native of Umuchoke Amaigbo, Nwagele LGA, the last but fleeing member of the armed robbery gang who is wanted for murder. He appealed to the members of the public with any useful information that can lead to his arrest to contact the Police.

In a similar arrest, the commissioner also paraded a group who were purportedly hired by a man to kidnap his sister in-law and her kids on their way to school. He said that it took the rapid response of the command’s ambush squad to rescue them and then arrest the suspects.

The commissioner of police went ahead to narrate how his ambush squad was able to detect and arrest a man who impersonates being a member of the Police Community Relations Committee, PCRC, with an automatic pistol recovered in his possession.

Part of the arrests made were some other group of fake palm wine operators who used fermented cassava to mix palm wine and sell to unsuspected members of the public.

Items recovered during these raids by the Police include 990,000 Naira, and another 2,700 US dollars. Others are 51 cars of various makes, 9 AK-47 rifles, 7 assault rifles, 14 Pump Action guns, and 150 car master keys.

5 killed As Gunmen Attack Farmers In Plateau State

No fewer than five people were killed early Monday morning as unknown gunmen attacked farmers in Kassa village of Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau State, North Central Nigeria, killing three people while two of the attackers were killed by security personnel in a gun battle.

According to the media officer of the Special Task Force (STF), Captain Salisu Mustapha, members of the task force moved to the scene in response to distress call by the villagers and the attackers on sighting the troops opened fire.

The gun duel which ensued between the attackers and the military personnel resulted to the killing of two of the attackers while four others were injured and arrested and in the process the military recovered three AK 47 rifles, one locally made rifle, 45 rounds of 7.62mm special and 31 cartridges.

Prior to the Monday attack, some cows while grazing were attacked at Kassa area of Ropp district in the same Barkin Ladi local government area in which six of the cows were killed and three injured while two suspects were arrested in connection to the incident.

There was also a similar attack on Kubel village in the same local government area as seventeen cows were killed, nine wounded and five were declared missing while preliminary investigations by security personnel led to the arrest of three suspects currently been investigated.

With the incessant attacks in the villages becoming rampant in spite of the concerted efforts of the task force towards maintaining peace in the state, the security operatives has declared that any individual or group of persons bent in fomenting trouble with the sole aim of truncating peace in the state have made themselves enemies of peace and will be treated as such.

JTF Recovers Arms And Ammunitions In Yobe State, Kills One

The Joint Task Force (JTF) in Yobe state said one suspected member of the dreaded Boko Haram sect has been killed in a gun battle in the state.

In a statement made available to news men in Damaturu; the state capital, its Spokesman Lieutenant Eli Lazarus reveals that the killing followed an encounter between the JTF who were on patrol around the Gujba Area of the state and members of the Boko Haram.

Other members of the Islamic group according to the statement, escaped with various gunshot wounds during the encounter after abandoning their vehicle.

Items recovered from the suspects include five AK 47 rifles, two hundred and eleven rounds of ammunition and ten Magazines.

Other items include one Mitsubishi Canter truck, two motorcycles and Improvised Explosives Devices (IEDs) materials, medical supplies as well as Police Uniforms.

The statement adds that JTF will continue to work assiduously towards the restoration of permanent peace in the state.
