APC Lists New Cases Of Looting Under Previous Administration

APCThe All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday listed what it calls “new instances of the insane looting of the treasury by some officials of the Goodluck Jonathan administration”.

The party maintained that the corruption mess that characterized the administration was so pervasive that until it is cleaned, Nigeria will not be able to actualize its potentials.

A press statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said the cases are heart-rendering which needs the attention of all Nigerians.

“First is a mind-shattering $2.2 billion arms scandal perpetuated under the Jonathan regime.

“Another revelation is a $6.9 million fraud by the Chief Security Officer (CSO) to President Jonathan, Gordon Obuah, committed under the guise of buying three mobile stages for the President.

“Also a 2.5 billion naira scam involving the rent of house boats” was mentioned by the ruling party.

The party further noted that “while those charged with handling of these cases are finalizing the details of bringing the suspects to justice, the APC’s immediate concern is the attempt by the PDP to make a cover up.

“It is clear to all Nigerians that the debilitating impact of 16 years of PDP’s misrule cannot be reversed in just 3 months. It is an obvious truth that it is always easier to destroy than to construct, but nothing will stand in the way of the Buhari Administration’s commitment to improving the quality of life of Nigerians and making our country to function again,” the statement read.

The Party had earlier listed instances of alleged mass looting of funds in Nigeria, saying a total recovery will be acceptable to all patriotic Nigerians.

APC Lauds Service Chiefs Over Fight Against Terror

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has lauded Nigeria’s Service Chiefs for being at the fore front of the renewed fight against Boko Haram.

In a statement, the National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said the report that the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai, and the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, personally coordinating troops is the best news to have emerged in recent times.

The party said in that “there can be no bigger boost to the morale of the gallant troops who are combating Boko Haram than the sight of their Service Chiefs personally leading the charge from one village to another, battling the insurgents or flying in a reconnaissance aircraft coordinating the various NAF platforms involved in the operation to provide close air support to ground forces.

“By their actions, Lt.-Gen. Buratai and Air Marshal Abubakar have shown that they care deeply for their troops and are determined to lead them to beat the deadline set by President Muhammadu Buhari to end the Boko Haram insurgency.”

APC described the Service Chiefs and the troops as a pride to the military and indeed to Nigeria while calling on Nigerians to continue to support their efforts

Don’t Truncate The Fight Against Corruption, APC Warns Nigerians

APCThe All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned against any attempt to truncate the ongoing fight against corruption under any guise, while also expressing total support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s determination to end the scourge of corruption in the country.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party appealed to all Nigerians, especially opinion leaders, to ensure that their actions and utterances do not give comfort to those who have looted the commonwealth.

”Our party promised Nigerians change, but the change that we promised and which Nigerians desire so much cannot be achieved if we allow the resources that belong to all Nigerians to be appropriated by a few. How do we upgrade our decayed infrastructure and provide jobs for our people when the money meant for that has been squirrelled away by a few?

”President Buhari has promised to break the vicious cycle of corruption that has held Nigeria down. How can he do that if he allows those who have looted the treasury to escape justice, and then use their ill-gotten wealth to fight the government? How can he do that if he turns a blind eye to the monumental cases corruption in all sectors.

”We know that fighting corruption in a society where the cankerworm has eaten deep into its fabric will not be easy. We know that corruption will always fight back. But there is no other choice than to confront and destroy this monster once and for all, lest it destroys Nigeria,” it said.

APC said the President’s sincerity of purpose can be seen from his statement that any of his party members who is found to be corrupt will not escape justice.

”Therefore, those who are shouting themselves hoarse by saying the Buhari Administration’s fight against corruption is selective or is a distraction are only seeking to sabotage the epic battle.

”If they have any case of corruption against any member of the APC, they should forward their evidence to the appropriate anti-corruption agency. But to take to the airwaves and the pages of newspaper to use their paid agents to launch a campaign against the anti-graft fight is to fight against the very existence and survival of Nigeria.

”The danger in truncating the fight against corruption is that it will consign Nigeria to poverty, insecurity and unemployment in perpetuity. That is why we are restating our unalloyed support for the President, and urging him not to be deterred or distracted by those hiding under sophistry to weaken the fight,” the party said.

It said those who are engaging in nitpicking on the anti-corruption fight are simply implementing a well-oiled plan to make enough noise by accusing the Buhari Administration of being selective, and hope to create enough confusion and distraction to hoodwink unsuspecting Nigerians.

”We are glad that most Nigerians have lent their support to the government’s fight against corruption, going by their interventions on the Social Media which has now become a people’s parliament of sorts, and other fora. We urge them not to relent in their support, irrespective of the antics of the naysayers,” APC said.

Osinbajo Demands Apology, 2bn Naira Damages From Fani-Kayode

Yemi-Osinbajo_APC_VP_CandidateThe vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Yemi Osinbajo, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to Mr Femi Fani-Kayode to apologise over “defamatory statements” against him.

In a letter dated February 28 and addressed to Mr Fani-Kayode, who is the Director of Media and Publicity of the Peoples’ Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation, Mr Osinbajo demanded for two billion Naira as damages.

He also demanded for an immediate retraction of the “offensive and derogatory” publication and an apology on four Television channels and national newspapers.

“Be advised that if we do not receive your formal retraction and apology and damages as demanded within seven days of receipt hereof, we shall proceed with our client’s instructions to seek appropriate legal remedies for your publication and dissemination of defamatory statements,” Mr Osinbajo wrote, through his lawyer, Mr Femi Falana, also a senior advocate.

“Misleading Defamatory Statements”

Mr Fani-Kayode, a lawyer, had on February 28, convened a press conference in Abuja, where he alleged that the APC’s vice presidential candidate had sworn an oath to vacate his seat should the party win the forthcoming election.

According to Mr Fani-Kayode, Senator Bola Tinubu, the APC’s National Leader, had nominated Mr Osinbajo as part of “plans to come to power through the back door”.

“Tinubu, according to our information, has compelled Osinbajo to swear to an oath that after six months in office, he would resign as the vice president, in the unlikely event that their party wins,” Mr Fani-Kayode said while addressing the press.

“The wicked plot, as laid out by them, is to force Osinbajo to resign for Tinubu to be nominated by Buhari as his replacement.”

Mr Falana said that the statement, wherein he labelled Mr Osinbajo as Mr Tinubu’s ‘stooge,’ hurt the vice presidential candidate, having been disseminated to millions of TV viewers, including on print and online media.

“As it were, the statement has now been published and circulated to an undetermined number of people in Nigeria, and internationally outside Nigeria,” Mr. Falana said.

“The direct meaning, imputation, purport and/or innuendo or insinuation of the false, misleading and defamatory statements is that: “Professor Osinbajo is deceitful. Essentially, you alleged that his motivation and pledge to serve as Vice President of Nigeria is inconsistent with his avowed desire to serve this nation with General Buhari, and work assiduously to deliver the benefits of his commitment, party and personal promises to the people”.

“Your characterisation of Professor Osinbajo as a ‘stooge’ in context suggests that he is complicit in a fraud against the Nigerian people,” he stated.

Mr Falana further said that Mr Fani-Kayode’s statements implied that his client lacked integrity and had engaged in a conduct incompatible with his faith and ethics as a pastor and respected lawyer.

“It is clear that the entire publication was a vicious, wicked and reckless ploy to impugn the reputation of our client and lower him in the estimation of right thinking members of the public,” Mr Falana added.

Meanwhile, Mr Femi Fani-Kayode, has also demanded for five billion Naira from the spokesman of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Lai Mohammed, as damages for a ‘defamatory publication’.

A solicitor to Mr Femi Fani-Kayode,  Mr Ahmed Raji, who made the demand on Tuesday, also asked Mr Mohammed to withdraw the statement made on its client’s mental state and published on the Nation Newspaper.

In a letter written to Mr Lai Mohammed, signed by Whyte Prokunomaa, the Firm noted that Mr Fani-Kayode denied in its entirety, the contents of the publication.

In a letter written to Mr Lai Mohammed, signed by Whyte Prokunomaa, the Firm noted that Mr Fani-Kayode denied in its entirety, the contents of the publication.

The firm stated further that every allegation against Mr Fani-Kayode in the said publication was false and defamatory of his person and character.

Mr Mohammed in a statement in Dubai, stressed that the APC had never and would never wish anyone ill-health.

He said: “No! We have never and will never wish anyone any ill-health.

“However, we are seriously concerned that Mr Fani-Kayode may have unhinged, perhaps as a result of a relapse into an unhealthy lifestyle of substance abuse.

“Our concern stems from the series of incoherent behaviours exhibited by Mr Fani-Kayode in recent times, which call into question his state of mental health.”

However, Mr Fani-Kayode’ solicitor demanded that Mr Mohammed should withdraw the said statement and render an apology to its client within seven days of the receipt of the request.

It also noted that the APC’s National Publicity Secretary was expected to enter into negotiation for damages, stating that it had firm instructions to claim five Billion Naira damages against him.

Meanwhile, the vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Yemi Osinbajo, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to Mr Fani-Kayode to apologise over “defamatory statements” against him.

‘Oath’ Claim Designed to Dampen Buhari’s Chatham House Success – APC

APCThe All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to the claim by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign that Bola Ahmed Tinubu, plans to assume the position of Vice President through the back door, which was designed to divert attention from the success of the APC Presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari at the Chatham House in London, last Thursday.

In a statement issued in London on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the PDP and the Jonathan Administration still do not have any answer to what has now become an epochal moment that has separated the wheat from the chaff.

”Our presidential candidate’s globally-acclaimed outing has presented Nigerians, and indeed the global community, to choose between an ineffective, incoherent, and incompetent President and an assertive, knowledgeable, dignified, purposeful and principled President-in-waiting.

”Having failed to discredit that outing with a rented crowd, some of whom confessed to have been paid to carry placards they do not understand, the PDP and the Jonathan Administration had resorted to making nauseating claims that were totally untrue, absolutely incomprehensible” it said.

APC said the claim was the latest in a series of desperate moves by the PDP and the Jonathan Administration since the emergence of Gen. Buhari as the APC presidential candidate, and the clearest indication yet that they had no answer to the unstoppable momentum of a man of history.

”They had thrown everything imaginable at Gen. Buhari, but he had continued to wax stronger and stronger: They said he was not qualified, that he was too old, then they fabricated a medical report of an illness of their own choice, sponsored death wish adverted against him and instituted a myriad of court cases to stop him.

”After they failed to stop him, they went after the election itself, using the PVCs as a tool to launch a campaign for postponement and, when they realized that would not work, came up with the bogey of insecurity in the North-east to force a postponement of the election, hoping they could buy enough time to revive their electoral misfortune.

”With everything working against them, they engaged in a show of shame at The Chatham House that backfired badly, on the heels of their bare-faced lies that Gen. Buhari was hospitalized in London. The preposterous claim of a secret oath – reminiscent of what they do in their own party – by the  spokesman of the Jonathan Campaign Organization, Femi Fani-Kayode, is their latest desperate act,” the party said.

APC said in as much as it had so far refrained from engaging Fani-Kayode in his game of character, abuses and irresponsible name calling, the party was becoming seriously concerned that he may be caving under pressure and reverting to his undignified past of substance abuse.

APC Appoints Amaechi DG of Presidential Campaign Organization

amaechi-rotimi 1The All Progressives Congress (APC) has named Gov. Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State as the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Organization, which will drive the party’s effort to win the 2015 presidential election.

In a statement issued in Lagos on Thursday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the announcement followed the hugely successful convention at which its presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, was democratically elected, and the successful choice of his running mate, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

It said Gov. Amaechi’s outstanding reputation as a man of courage, principle, strength of character, decency and love of country, as well as his administrative prowess and organizational skills combined to fetch him perhaps the most important task in the quest for positive change in Nigeria.

APC thanked Nigerians for their support and prayers toward the success of the convention, the emergence of Gen. Buhari as the APC presidential candidate and the choice of Prof. Osinbajo as his running mate.

The party said it believed it had lived to its promise to Nigerians to ensure that the choice of its presidential running mate would be made within the context of the best democratic ideals, considering the enormously-positive reactions from the general public to the choice of Prof. Osinbajo.

”With a presidential candidate that has rekindled the hopes of the citizenry and revived their belief in democratic ideals, we believe we must also choose a running mate that will complement the sterling qualities of the presidential candidate. We must confess that the choice was a tough one, considering the array of eminently-qualified and outstanding candidates that we had to choose from.

”Yes, we were spoilt for choice but, in the end, we picked as running mate a man whose pedigree, nationally, sub-regionally, regionally and globally, attests to the fact that our party, the APC, is a repository of high quality leadership materials, and that our country, Nigeria, has no shortage of the very best human resources,” it said.

APC said whether in the academic, legal or ecclesiastical world, Prof. Osinbajo stands much taller than his physical frame, and serves as a good running mate to our presidential candidate, himself a man of such rare sterling qualities that have stood the test of time, qualities that are now so sorely lacking in our country’s leadership.

”Our presidential running mate is an award-winning professor of law, a legal luminary, a gentleman, a much-sought-after public speaker, a tested administrator, an author and a man of great ecclesiastical standing.

”Educated in Nigeria and the UK, Prof. Osinbajo is a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, who has served in many organizations and professional bodies in Nigeria, West Africa, Africa and the United Nations. He has authored or edited over a dozen publications, has taught and practised law at the high levels, and has served on the Editorial Boards of learned publications and non-legal publications, in addition to publishing many articles in learned journals.

”Now that we have presented Nigerians with the best possible choices for the exalted positions of President and Vice President, we expect that citizens, who have been yearning for quality leadership, will use their voting power to put Nigeria firmly on the path of greatness. A country seeking to be among the greats in the comity of nations cannot afford to have a mediocre leadership,” the party said.

APC Condemns Slow Processing Of PVC In Osun

APC-Logo The Osun Governorship election is about a month away but fears are being raised by the members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the rate at which the permanent voters card is been processed.

The APC has asked the umpire to speed up the processing of the permanent voters cards.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, the APC stated that the delay might lead to some voters being disenfranchised.

“INEC has been painfully slow in processing the permanent voters cards, and one can only hope that the electoral body is not doing this deliberately.

“The slow processing of the permanent voters cards has, in particular, hit the Central Senatorial District of the state, and has affected those who had earlier registered as well as those who registered this year”, he stated.

The party said this because of the reported announcement by the Electoral Commissioner in Osun State that whoever does not have a permanent voter’s card would not be allowed to vote in the August 9 election.

The party said that it hoped that INEC was not deliberately slowing the process to disenfranchise voters which would affect the turn out of voters.

PDP Smashes APC Over Age Of Newly Elected APC Youth Leader

PDP vs APCThere has been a recent controversy between the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the correct age of the newly elected APC Youth Leader, Ibrahim Dasuki Jalo.

The PDP National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh alleged that Mr Ibrahim is a 52 year old man whose age makes the new position as youth leader of the APC ironical. Although, he says APC has the right to (s)elect a person of any age for any position within its fold, including a 52-year-old man as National Youth Leader, he is shocked that they chose to lie over an issue as ordinary as the age of a national officer.

Metuh, said that Dasuki had contested far back as 2011 for the post of Gombe/Kwame/Funakaye Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representative and at the time announced he was 49 years old, noted that that is a fact well documented.

He stated that it is disheartening that the APC had refused to shed its unnecessary penchant for lies even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

In his statement, he expects Jalo to be grateful to God for being alive even at that age and it naturally adds up that a man of 49 years in 2011 should be 52 at present. Metuh held that in lying over the age of its national officer, APC has shown that “it has little regard for integrity and that its statements cannot be trusted” and advised them to imbibe the culture of honesty and integrity.

The ruling party’s spokesperson was reacting to a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Lai Mohammed, that Jalo was not up to 53 years as being claimed.

Mohammed had said, “We have been able to confirm that the APC Youth Leader, Jalo was actually born on the 13th of April 1971, and that puts his age at 43, and not 49, 52 or 53, as being falsely circulated.

“This is not to say a 43-year-old man is ideal to be our youth leader but simply to put the records straight, while the party leadership continues to listen to the voices of concern by our teeming youths.”

Govt Shutdown: Our Senators Did Not Flout Party’s Directive – APC

In a statement issued in Lagos on Tuesday by its Interim National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, the party said that the reports were borne out of the gross misunderstanding of filibustering as a veritable democratic tool to impede legislation by obstructive tactics.

”We never directed our members in the National Assembly to boycott the chambers’ sessions, whether it is screening of appointees or plenary. What we said is that they should block Executive Bills. In any case, a Senator or an Honourable member can only filibuster when he is in attendance. Filibuster does not equate to boycott or non-attendance,” APC said.

The party said that it was fully aware that its members in the Senate would attend the screening of the military chiefs, ”just as we are sure they will be part of any debate on the issue, and we have no problems with that. After all they were elected to attend the National Assembly sessions and fully participate in its activities. But their contributions will help swing things one way or the other. That is the crux of the matter”.
