Ayodeji Richard Makun popularly known by his stage name, AY is set to premiere another blockbuster movie 10 Days In Sun City.
The comic movie which will hit the big screens on June 23 2017, was shot in Sun City, Johannesburg and Lagos, directed by award-winning South Africa-based Nigerian, Adze Ugah, written by Kehinde Ogunlola and produced by AY.
The movie features celebrities such as 2face Idibia, Adesua Etomi, Mercy Johnson, Falz The Bahd Guy, Uti Nwachukwu, Yvonne Jegede, Alexx Ekubo and veteran actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo.
Also featured in the movie were South African comedienne, Thenjiwe Moseley, Amanda Du Pont, Celeste Ntuli and a bit of Hollywood spice, Miguel Nunez Jr.
According to AY, the movie has helped in showcasing to the world the tourism potentials of Nigeria and South Africa.
It was a star-studded, black carpet event at the premiere of AY’s new movie, ‘A Trip to Jamaica’, in Lagos.
Among those in attendance were fans, supporters as well as celebrities in the music, film and fashion industries.
The movie, which was a mix of Hollywood, Nollywood and Ghallywood actors, featured Funke Akindele, Nse Ikpe Etim, Chris Attoh, Dan Davids, Eric Roberts, Rebecca Sylvera, Paul Campbell and AY among others.
In 2014, comedian Ayomakun popularly known as AY, released his debut feature length film ’30 days in Atlanta’, which gained rave reviews and eventually became a box office hit, as the highest grossing film in Nigerian cinema.
Despite mixed reviews, the Robert Peters directed comedy, came back with the spin-off in 2016 ‘A Trip To Jamaica’.
AY, who is regarded as one of Nigeria’s highest grossing comedians, explained that he decided it would be a good idea to shoot the movie in Jamaica because he discovered after some research, that “Jamaicans love Nollywood movies, and we also love their culture, especially in the aspect of Music”.
He also said that as part of making it work, there were a lot of collaborations along-side the movie. Such collaborations he said were between Tiwa Savage and singer, Busy Signal, who created the official motion picture soundtrack for the movie.
Director, Robert Peters further explained the multicultural film, saying “we are trying to connect, trying to make a cross cultural movie and at the end of the day, it is aimed at giving our film a world view”.
AY also addressed concerns on piracy, a menace to which the ’30 days in Atlanta’ fell victim. He said certain measures have been put in place to avoid a repetition.
He, however, appealed to the government to take proactive steps to allay the fears of stakeholders in the creative industry.
Funke Akindele And JJC
Another interesting detail that crowned the event was the first time appearance of Funke Akindele, A.K.A Jenifa, with her singer husband, Abdul Rasheed Bello A.K.A JJC skills.
The couple, who had gotten married in a secret wedding, in London on August 23, 2016, finally came open in public for the first time during the premiere of the movie ‘A Trip To Jamaica’.
Reports say they chose a quiet wedding in London because neither of them wanted to be at the center of attention, having been on that lane before.
“The decision to do it quietly was right for us and we pray for the understanding of our close friends and fans at this offer of a lifetime moment,” the couple said.
The Ovie of Umiaghwa-Abraka Kingdom, Rtd Air Vice Marshal Lucky Ararile, hosted friends and family to a treat, as he marked his 60th birthday.
In his royal attire, accompanied by his wife, Opuruiche, the celebrant’s was full of joy.
Guests say he is not only a blessing to his community Abraka but indeed to Nigeria which he served for 35 years as dedicated Air Force personnel.
During the long service of the monarch in the Nigerian Air Force, he was part of the Peace Keeping Mission to Liberia, Sierra Leone and other parts of the world, particularly restoring peace in the Niger Delta region.
Those achievements in his career and family front were what he also celebrated.
The day was not all speeches, as popular comedian, AY, entertained the guest with rib-cracking jokes.
For the monarch, it was just a day to thank God for his mercies upon his life and family.
Popular Comedian, Ayo Makun, also known as AY, has disclosed that his impersonation of popular Nigerian pastor, Chris Okotie got him his fame.
Popular Pentecostal Preacher, Chris Okotie is well known for his passionate sermons which are usually filled with complex mix of English and Latin vocabularies to the amazement of his large church and television audiences.
Speaking on Channels Television Saturday breakfast programme, Sunrise, AY said that his line of comedy focuses on stand-up, skit and impersonation as he is known to have also successfully made popular jokes by mimicking several Nigerian entertainers including D’Banj and Tuface Idibia.
He noted that while most Nigerian comedians are social commenters who know how to observe their environment and make jokes from everyday happenings, he had chosen a path that works best for him and which also helps him to maintain his originality.
He further attributed his fast rise in the business to the influence of the one popularly known in Nigeria as the ‘King of Comedy’, Ali Baba, stating that he was a mentor that helped him find his bearing in the art of comedy.
Speaking about moving forward, AY, who has consistently displayed an appreciable level of creativity with his production of TV shows, drama and comedy concerts, revealed that his next project would be working on a movie.
He revealed that the new movie would feature ageless Hollywood star, Vivica Fox.
