Imo Re-Run: Tribunal Tells PDP To Paste Court Summon On APC Secretariat Gate

At the maiden sitting of the tribunal, the Presiding Judge, Justice Geraldine Imadegbelo, granted the prayer of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Athan Achonu, to paste the summons of the court at the notice board of the court and at the APC state secretariat to serve as a substituted service to the candidate of the APC, Mr Ben Uwajimogu, who is alleged to have evaded service.

Justice Imadegbelo also granted the application of the candidate of the PDP to carry out a forensic inspection on the sensitive materials used during the conduct of the rerun elections on July 23, 2016.

Lead Counsel to the PDP candidate, Mr Ken Njamanze (SAN) said the motion granted by the Judge has become necessary following the evasion of the second respondent to be served the court summon.

He pointed out that service on the second respondent is fundamental for fair hearing and to allow further and effective proceeding.

The Senior Advocate also noted that the court also granted the request of the appellant to inspect the electoral documents including the ballot papers and result sheets in the custody of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Mr Achonu, who contested in the just concluded Imo North Senatorial election, had approached the Election Petition Tribunal insisting that the election was marred with irregularities and massive rigging by the APC.

He insists that he won the election and that the court should declare him winner of the election, having scored majority of the lawful votes in the election.

Imo North Rerun Election: APC’s Ben Uwajimogu Declared Winner

PDP, APC, Imo, Election, Imo NorthThe All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the Imo North Senatorial District election, Mr Ben Uwajimogu, has been declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Mr Uwajimogu, having scored 56,076 votes, beat his closest rival the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Mr Athan Achonu who polled 43,815 votes.

While announcing the results at the Central Collation Centre in Okigwe Local Government headquarters, the returning officer, Professor Arinze Agbaogu said the APC candidate having scored the majority and lawful votes in the election is hereby declared winner of the election.

Similarly, the APC candidate in Oru East, Nkenna Nzeruo and his counterpart in Isiala Mbano, Chiji Collins, were also declared winners of the State House of Assembly rerun elections in their area.

Mr Adoba served as the Special Adviser on administration to the Speaker Imo house of assembly. His body was found in a pool of blood with several cuts all over his body.

In a statement signed by the press secretary to the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly officially notifying the public of Mr Adoba’s death, the Speaker described the incident as a shock to him and said it is a big loss to the House of Assembly and the entire state.
He however offered the sum of N500, 000 for anyone with any useful information about the death of his murdered aide.

Meanwhile, Security Operatives in the state have already swung into action in order to unravel the mystery behind the gruesome murder.
