Brad Pitt’s Oscar win on Sunday marks a fitting comeback for the veteran actor whose personal life, rather than his on-screen roles, has dominated headlines in recent years.

Pitt won the golden statuette for his role as a laid-back fading stuntman in Quentin Tarantino’s ode to 1960s Tinseltown, “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood.”

“This is incredible, really incredible,” the 56-year-old said as he accepted the award — his first Academy Award for acting after more than 30 years in showbiz and three previous performance nominations.

“They told me I only have 45 seconds up here, which is 45 seconds more than the Senate gave John Bolton this week,” he said, in reference to President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial.

“I’m thinking maybe Quentin does a movie about it — in the end, the adults do the right thing.”

His quips were the latest in a string of pithy, often funny speeches delivered as he swept a glut of prizes this award season including a Golden Globe, targeting everything from divorce to Prince Harry.

On Sunday, he bested a crowded field of four former Oscar winners — Joe Pesci and Al Pacino for Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman,” Anthony Hopkins (“The Two Popes”) and Tom Hanks (“A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”).

But it was not his first Oscar — he won a best picture prize in 2014 as one of the producers of “12 Years a Slave.”

Pitt’s performance in “Once Upon a Time…” earned him rave reviews, with Britain’s Sunday Times describing it as the best by a movie star in 2019.

The award is a well-earned win for the Hollywood heartthrob, who has kept a low profile since 2016 as he went through a messy divorce with Angelina Jolie and a bitter custody battle over their six children.

Pitt faced accusations of child abuse, heavy drinking, and drug use.

Since then, he has talked at length about getting sober and attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings for a year and a half after having “taken things as far as I could take” them.

“This is for my kids who color everything I do. I adore you,” he said Sunday.

Even before his relationship with Jolie, Pitt has endured the constant tabloid spotlight — especially during his engagement to Gwyneth Paltrow and subsequent marriage to Jennifer Aniston.

“In the 90s, all that attention really threw me,” Pitt told The New York Times in an interview last year.

“It was really uncomfortable for me, the cacophony of expectations and judgments. I really became a bit of a hermit and just bonged myself into oblivion.”

Focus on producing

Raised in Springfield, Missouri, Pitt was the eldest of three children whose father owned a trucking company and aspired to give his kids a better life.

Pitt moved to Los Angeles in the 1980s on a whim, dropping out of college just two credits shy of earning a degree in journalism.

After doing some odd jobs, including dressing as a chicken for a fast-food restaurant, he started getting small TV roles, including on “Dallas” and “21 Jump Street.”

His breakout role came in 1991 as a sexy hustler in Ridley Scott’s smash hit “Thelma & Louise” starring Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon.

That success propelled him to a series of bigger roles — “A River Runs Through It” directed by Robert Redford, “Interview With the Vampire” opposite Tom Cruise, “Legends of the Fall” with Hopkins, and thriller “Se7en” all by 1995.

His first Oscar nod came for another 1995 film, the off-kilter “Twelve Monkeys” directed by Terry Gilliam.

By that time, Pitt was a bona fide A-lister.

After that, he showed versatility in his roles, starring in crime caper “Ocean’s Eleven” with George Clooney, psychological drama “Babel” and Tarantino’s “Inglorious Basterds.”

His other Oscar acting nods came for “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” and “Moneyball,” a film he also produced.

Apart from “Once Upon a Time,” his comeback to the big screen in 2019 also included a critically acclaimed performance in space drama “Ad Astra,” in which he plays astronaut Roy McBride.

Going forward, Pitt — whose interests include sculpting and landscaping — has said he plans to increasingly focus on producing movies rather than appearing in front of the camera.

“It’ll be fewer and farther in between for me, just because I have other things I want to do now,” he told the Times.

“When you feel like you’ve finally got your arms around something, then it’s time to go get your arms around something else.”

Hollywood superstars Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have reached an amicable agreement on the custody of their six children, avoiding a potentially messy public trial, US media reported on Friday.

Pitt and Jolie announced their separation in September 2016 after two years of marriage and 11 years together.

Three of their children are their biological children, and the other three are adopted.

“A custody arrangement was agreed two weeks ago, and has been signed by both parties and the judge,” Jolie’s lawyer, Samantha Bley DeJean, said in a statement carried by several US celebrity news outlets including TMZ.

“The agreement, which is based on the recommendations of the child custody evaluator, eliminates the need for a trial,” she said.

The couple had been set for a trial on December 4 — the deal means they will not battle in court.

Jolie originally wanted to have sole custody of the children, while Pitt asked for shared custody.

The terms of the agreement are confidential, DeJean said.

The couple is still working out the details of their divorce, with the distribution of assets reportedly proving especially thorny. Jolie and Pitt did not have a prenuptial agreement.

Gennaro Gattuso warned AC Milan not to get carried away by recent wins as they prepare to play Udinese coached his former Italy and Milan teammate Massimo Oddo.

“We’re not Brad Pitt now, we’ve got to continue being as ugly as me and my beard, with bags under the eyes,” said Gattuso ahead of Sunday’s Serie A game.

Gattuso took over late in November and the former European giants have now achieved three consecutive Serie A victories and held Lazio in the Italian Cup semi-final.

“We mustn’t forget what people were saying about us only six weeks ago, otherwise we’ll regress,” he continued.

“I hear talk of a Champions League place, but we’re not even in the Europa League spots now.”

Both Gattuso, 40, and Oddo, 41, spent a lot of their careers at Milan and were on Italy’s 2006 World Cup winning squad.

“I shared so much with Massimo Oddo. He’s an intelligent and funny guy whose success speaks for him,” said Gattuso who also played in Scotland for Rangers.

“He got a few slaps in the face from me for his pranks, as we had very different ideas on how to prepare for a game.”

Milan are looking for a fourth straight win in the league to move up from seventh into the Europa League places.

“We mustn’t get anything wrong, as at the moment only Napoli and Juventus are in better form,” said Gattuso.

Oddo has lifted Udinese from 14th to ninth since taking over two and half months ago and they are on an eight-game unbeaten run.

“Obviously, this is not a normal match for me, but it’s one I will have to deal with,” said Oddo of playing his former team.

“I am pleased to face some old friends and test ourselves in difficult circumstances.

“We have to play as a team against a Milan side that has learned how to act as a unit, so I compliment Rino Gattuso for his fine work.”

“Milan are in good shape, have learned how to become a team and are very dangerous opponents right now. Gattuso is a teammate and friend I shared unforgettable moments with, so I am very happy with the success he is experiencing as a coach.”

Brad Pitt Attends New York Premiere Of “Okja”

Actor and producer Brad Pitt helped celebrate the release of the new Netflix film, “Okja” in New York on Thursday (June 08) night.

The actor’s production company, Plan B, produced the film written and directed by South Korean director Bong Joon-ho, known for “Snowpiercer” and “The Host,” and starring actress Tilda Swinton.

“Okja” tells the story of a giant pig raised in part by a young South Korean girl, Mija. Their idyllic life is threatened when a TV zoologist, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, turns up to reclaim the animal for a company called Mirando, whose CEO is played by Swinton. Unknown to Mija, the giant pig had been bred by the company in order to produce cheap meat.

The animal is saved but also used, by activists from the Animal Liberation Front (ALF).

With elements of “King Kong”, the film has been described as “snazzy science fiction succeeds as both a critique of the modern meat industry and a bittersweet tale of the bond between a girl and a mighty beast”.

“Okja” will be streamed on Netflix and released in New York and Los Angeles theaters on June 28.

Brad Pitt, Courtney Love Among Mourners At Chris Cornell’s Funeral

Soundgarden rocker Chris Cornell was laid to rest on Friday in a funeral and memorial service at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery attended by celebrities Brad Pitt, Christian Bale and Courtney Love and the singer’s family.

Cornell, 52, was found dead in his hotel in Detroit last week hours after his band played a concert in the city. The Detroit Medical Examiner’s Office determined he had committed suicide by hanging himself.

Outside the cemetery, dozens of fans gathered to pay tribute to the grunge rocker.

Cornell had spoken openly of his drug and alcohol addiction in the past, as well as periods of depression and agoraphobia.
After Soundgarden broke up in 1997, Cornell in 2001 joined members of Rage against the Machine to form Audioslave, which released an acclaimed self-titled album.
Soundgarden reunited in 2010 and the band embarked on its latest tour in April.

Seattle-born Cornell was the latest member of the elite 1990s grunge rock movement to die from either a drug overdose or suicide.
Kurt Cobain of Nirvana, who was married to Courtney Love, killed himself in 1994. Layne Staley of Alice in Chains and Scott Weiland of the Stone Temple Pilots both died of drug overdoses.

Angelina Jolie Says ‘Open’ To Politics

angelina-jolieMultiple award winning actress, Angelina Jolie is “likely” to pursue a career in politics, diplomacy or public service, she told popular Vanity Fair magazine.

Jolie, who has also started directing movies, including Maleficent – a re-make of the popular Sleeping Beauty story – has her hands full with six children, charity projects across the globe and a role as special envoy to the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Recently, Britain’s Queen Elizabeth made Jolie an honorary Dame at a private ceremony at Buckingham Palace, in recognition of her campaigning to end sexual violence in war zones and for services to UK foreign policy.

However, the actress says although she’s still unsure of what position she is likely to run, she intends on changing the face of politics.

In her interview with Vanity Fair, the actress spoke passionately about “Unbroken” – a movie about Olympic runner, World War Two airman and prisoner of war Louis Zamperini, which is set to debut on Dec. 25 2014.

She told the magazine about her friendship with Zamperini, who she showed an early cut of the movie before he died in July at the age of 97 after a 40-day bout of pneumonia.

“It was an extremely moving experience,” Jolie said, “to watch someone watching their own life.”

Zamperini spent 47 days in a life raft after his plane crashed into the Pacific and two years as a prisoner of war under the Japanese.

On being married to fellow actor Brad Pitt, Jolie said “it does feel different,” she said. “It feels nice.”

Jolie and Pitt had a low-key surprise August wedding at their French estate Chateau Miraval and according to the mother of six, their children wrote the marriage vows.

Brad Pitt And Angelina Jolie Quietly Say ‘I Do’

brangelinaAngelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, Hollywood’s first couple, married in France over the weekend following a two-year engagement, ending nearly a decade of fevered tabloid speculation over whether “Brangelina” would ever tie the knot.

Pitt, 50, and Jolie, 39, were wed on Saturday in a small chapel at Chateau Miraval, the couple’s estate in southeastern France, in a civil ceremony, according to a statement provided by publicist, Martin Torres, on Thursday.

The couple – whose long-rumored nuptials had been celebrity magazine and tabloid fodder and had sent reporters and photographers as far as India and Africa in search of possible “secret” ceremonies – wed much like they live: quietly and far removed from Hollywood’s spotlight.

The power couple’s six children, all under the age of 14, took part in the ceremony, the statement said.

The “Maleficent” star was walked down the aisle by eldest sons Maddox and Pax, while Zahara and Vivienne threw petals gathered from a garden. Shiloh and Knox were ring bearers.

“It was very much a family affair,” the statement said.

Jolie and Pitt, who had said they hoped to wed once same-sex marriage was legal throughout the United States, were married under California law by a judge who traveled to France for the ceremony.

Jolie’s father, actor, Jon Voight, told U.S. TV entertainment program “Inside Edition,” “That’s nice,” when informed about his daughter’s wedding. Jolie and Voight were estranged for years but have reconciled.

Jolie and Pitt announced their engagement in April 2012, seven years after their relationship caught fire on the set of 2005 film “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.”

They would star in an upcoming film “By the Sea,” written and to be directed by Jolie, who will also co-produce the drama with Pitt.

Pitt has said they considered marriage because it meant a lot to their children.

As two of the most prominent and influential figures in the entertainment industry, Pitt and Jolie have taken on humanitarian causes as well as putting their muscle behind serious film.

Jolie, who won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 2000 for “Girl, Interrupted,” was appointed as a special envoy for refugee issues in 2011 after a decade as a Goodwill Ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.

Pitt, who co-produced the Oscar-winning drama “12 Years a Slave,” started a foundation to help restore New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Jolie, who was previously married to actors Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton, has also become a voice for women’s health issues. She underwent a double mastectomy last year in a preventative step prompted by her genetic disposition for breast cancer.

Pitt is divorced from actress, Jennifer Aniston.

Gay marriage is legal in 19 of the 50 states and in Washington, D.C. More than 30 courts have ruled in favor of gay marriage. The U.S. Supreme Court is expected to take up the issue again in its coming term, which starts in October.

Brad Pitt finally proposes to Angelina Jolie to “legalize union”

After 7 years of unwedded bliss and 6 children, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have finally decided to walk down the aisle.

The two hollywood’s most recognisable celebrities, who incredibly fell in love after featuring in the movie ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ back in 2005, officially announced their engagement on the 14th of April, 2012.

“Yes, it’s confirmed” Brad Pitt’s manager, Cynthia Pett-Dante, disclosed in a statement. “It is a promise for the future, and their kids are very happy. There’s no date set at this time.”

A Beverly Hills jeweler, Robert Procop also confirmed the engagement, stating that  he helped Pitt, 48, design a custom diamond engagement ring for Jolie, 36.  According to him, ““Brad had a specific vision for this ring…he wanted every aspect of it to be perfect, so I was able to locate a diamond of the finest quality and cut it to an exact custom size and shape to suit Angelina’s hand”.

With the engagement, Jolie-Pitt’s three biological children (the twins Vivienne and Knox, and daughter Shiloh) and three adopted children (Maddox, Pax, and Zahara) are finally getting their happily-ever-after wish, that is, Mom and Dad, making their union legal, just like Shrek and Fiona in the movie ‘Shrek’.

In December, 2011, Jolie stated that the kids had been asking why she and their dad weren’t officially married because, after all, “people get married in the movies.” but her rationale for their relationship then was “You don’t have to be married to be committed to a partner or your family. We’ve explained to them that our commitment, when we decided to start a family, was the greatest commitment you could possibly have,” she said.

Also, Brad pitt who admitted that the reason for the engagement was due to the pressure from the kids,  stated he heeded to their pleas by getting their mother a ring, and he wasn’t surprised when Angelina Jolie said yes to him.

Meanwhile,  the couple, whose ‘relationship’ have so far being described as one of Hollywood’s longests ‘unions’ and notable for fervent media attention,  have championed humanitarian causes together, setting up the Jolie-Pitt Foundation as well as supporting a host of UN related causes across the globe.
