Obiano Apologizes Publicly To Peter Obi

Willie Obiano, Peter Obi, ObianoAnambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has publicly apologized to his predecessor, Mr. Peter Obi, asking him to forgive any wrong done to him.

The Governor, who is an old student of the Christ the King College, Onitsha as well as his predecessor, made the open plea during the burial mass of their School Principal, Reverend Father Nicholas Tagbo, at the premises of their alma mater.

He did this in the presence of thousands of former school mates and a large number of priests who were present to honor the late renowned teacher and principal known for discipline, love, forgiveness and unity.

It was an unprecedented development for the people of Anambra State who hailed Governor Obiano’s action as the best in the interest of peace and unity of the state.

Reacting to the development, Governor Willie Obiano said that although he was unaware of what the challenge was, he deemed it wise to make the move in the spirit of the Reverend Father who taught them love and forgiveness.

Former Governor Peter Obi in his reaction, said that as Christians, it is important to forgive and whatever they, as leaders, are doing, the interest of the children of Anambra State should be paramount.

The Archbishop of the Catholic Diocese of Onitsha and Metropolitan of the Ecclesiastical Province of the Niger, Most Reverend Valerian Okeke, blessed the reconciliation.

Obiano Interacts With Anambra People Resident In Abuja

Anambra, ObianoAnambra people resident in Abuja and nearby northern states have hailed Governor Willie Obiano for his performance and inclusive style of government in the state.

This was during an interactive programme tagged, ‘An Evening With His Excellency’, at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, where Governor Willie Obiano interfaced with the people on his administrative journey so far in Anambra State.

The Governor was of the belief that two years on, and in keeping to the mandate of impacting positively on the people, it was imperative for him to present himself and his administrative activities to the people for assessment.

Relaying his activities to the audience, Governor Willie Obiano touched on his four-point administrative blueprint of Agriculture, Trade and Commerce, Oil and Gas and Industrialization, as well as the 12 enablers including security, health, education, environment among others. He proudly announced that the state had excelled.

In the area of security, the Governor told the people how he, along with all the security agencies in the state, attacked the command and control centers of kidnappers, armed robbers and other violent criminals.

He talked about how he created Operation Kpochapu, donated smart patrol cars to the Police and gun boats to the Navy and launched aerial surveillance of the state during the yuletide.

He went on to present the new vision he has for the state.

The Governor’s presentation and the documentary video of his exploits in the state prompted commendation from the people.

For the former Minister of Education, Mrs Obiageli Ezekwesili and the former Chairman of Police Service Commission, Mr Simon Okeke, evidence-based policies and prudent management of resources have prevailed in Anambra State and have set the state on the path of more successes.

The programme availed the people the opportunity of asking questions on grey areas to which they also received explanations from the Governor.

Governor Obiano, having earlier held similar interactive programmes in Anambra and Lagos, again, solicited support and partnership from all for the development of the state in the face of economic challenges.

The Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke, who also addressed the gathering, restated the difficulty in the governance process but stated that against all odds, Anambra was still on the rise.

He urged the audience to always judge the Governor constructively.

Obiano Commissions Drug Quality Control Laboratory In Anambra

ObianoAnambra State Governor, Wilie Obiano, has commissioned a state of the art Drug Quality Control Laboratory and Drug Information Center in Awka, the state capital.

Governor Obiano, said during the commissioning, that his intervention in the health sector with regard to quality drugs and medical supplies will not only guarantee improved health for the citizenry, but would also reduce capital flight as a result of huge cost of treating diseases without result.

Being the first of its kind in the south east region of Nigeria, the governor said the Laboratory would ensure that the drugs that go the various health institutions in the state both private and public would be duly tested and certified safe for the people.

He also assured the people of the state of his commitment towards providing quality healthcare, noting that it would be unequalled having earmarked millions of naira for the upgrade of the 37 General Hospitals in the state.

Fifteen of the hospitals have been selected and are already being reconstructed in the first phase of the upgrade to be completed in the next six months.

Governor Obiano also inspected the knee replacement surgery ongoing in the State Teaching Hospital, sponsored by an abroad based doctor from the state.

He then commended the sponsor and called on other indigenous citizens to bring their profession and expertise home for proper development.

He further revealed his plans for the sustenance of an healthcare delivery in the state, which includes the establishment of adequate infrastructure, improved welfare for patients and also training and welfare of doctors and nurses.

The State Health Commissioner, Dr. Joe Akabuike, and the State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr Sule Momodu, both maintained that the project commissioned was a proactive step to quell the spate of diagnostic and treatment failures, despite the efforts of the regulatory agencies to curb the circulation of fake drugs.

Governor Obiano also expressed optimism that with all the measures in place, the era of fake drugs and unnecessary deaths in the state will be brought to an end.

Anambra Police Parade Suspected Criminals For Sundry Offences

obianoPolice in Anambra State have paraded 14 suspected criminals for sundry offences which include kidnapping and armed robbery.

Parading the suspects at the Headquarters of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, Awkuzu, the State Commissioner of Police, Hassan Karma, said that many of the suspects had been arrested for kidnapping, one of which is involved in the kidnap of a 78 year old woman at Ebenebe in Awka North Local Government area of the state.

According to Mr Karma, the Police secured the release of the woman who is presently hospitalised but not without a gun battle that led to the death of two of the gang members with three members at large and three arrested.

Several arms and ammunition were also recovered from them.

The Police Commissioner warned youths to desist from crime as the Police were combat ready to search them out wherever they may hide and bring them to justice.

In a similar development, the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Anambra Command, also paraded a suspect who smuggled 650 grams of Indian hemp to an inmate in Onitsha Prison on the pretext that he was taking food to him.

The State Commandant, Sule Momodu, commended the Onitsha Prison authority for their vigilance.

Speaking on the overall security situation in the state, Governor Willie Obiano said that the state could no longer contain criminals as his alliance with the security agencies in the state was paying off.

He noted that over 40 kidnap dens have been demolished within the past 11 months and several of the criminal suspects arrested were now facing the law.

The Governor also said with the second phase of security alliance formed between the Police and the community vigilante, security will be at its best and also be sustained too.

Obiano Unveils New Empowerment Scheme, Court Building

governor obianoAnambra state governor, Willie Obiano, has inaugurated the State’s Skill Acquisition and Empowerment Scheme, at the Technology Incubation Center, Nnewi.

For the first batch of the programme, 500 youths selected from the 21 local government areas of the state have been engaged to take part in trainings.

The trainees who will be spending between three weeks and two months will receive training in Information Communication Technology, spare parts fabrication, fishery, production of beverages, cosmetics and various types of detergents among other things.

Governor Obiano, in a similar development commissioned the customary court in Nnewi where he said that he had already perfected plans for the construction of world standard High Courts in the three senatorial zones of the state.

At the Technology Incubation Center, Nnewi, North Local Government Area of Anambra state, 500 trainees took the oath of allegiance towards total commitment to the training they will receive in various fields of endeavour.

In his address, Obiano recalled that another batch of 500 youths were being trained on automobile manufacturing, at Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing company.

While commending the state governor for donating a 300 KVA transformer for the institute, the manager of the center enjoined the beneficiaries to take full advantage of the rare opportunity offered them by the state to improve their economic self reliance.

School children brightened up the day with cultural dance, and the impressive state anthem rendition performed by Master Onyebuchi Osuma attracted a scholarship award from the governor to cater for his primary to tertiary education.

After the empowerment programme, the governor and his entourage moved over to the court premises at Ugwuochi Amichi in Nnewi South Local Government Area, for the commissioning of the new Customary Court Complex built by the state government.

The President of the Customary Court of Appeal in Anambra, Mr. Samuel Okoye, said the commissioning of the customary court was the beginning of infrastructural transformation for customary courts in the entire state.

Anambra Elections: APGA Affirms Soludo, Others Disqualification

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Governorship Appeal Panel has reaffirmed the disqualification of the former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Charles Soludo and five others who were disqualified by the screening panel on Friday.

The six aspirants disqualified by the party’s Governorship Screening Committee at the weekend appeared before the panel to contest their disqualification.

The panel, chaired by Chief Tony Ojielo ruled that their appeals lack merit and that the committee had no other option than to affirm their disqualification.

The six aspirants that failed the screening include, Emmanuel Nweke, Ogbuefi Tony Nnaechetta, Chinedu Francis Idigo, Dr. Chike Obidigbo, immediate past secretary to the Anambra state government, Oseloka Obaze and Prof. Soludo.

The aspirants were disqualified for not meeting some requirements of the party’s constitution ranging from non-possession of voter’s card, tax clearance, lack of evidence of sound financial muscle to unresolved issues with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The panel however said that seven other aspirants were successful.

The successful aspirants are Hon. Chukwuemeka Emmanuel Nwogbo, Paul Odenigbo, Hon. Uche Lillian Ekwunife, Chief Willie Obiano, John Nwosu, John Okechukwu Emeka and Nwachi Patrick Obianwu.

The candidates had indicated intentions to run for the party’s ticket in the governorship election of Anambra state which will take place in 2014.
