2019: Chris Okotie Joins Presidential Race

Reverend Chris Okotie has joined the 2019 presidential race.

He declared his intention to run for the presidency under the platform of the Fresh Democratic Party on Monday, during a service to commemorate the nation’s Independence Day at the Household of God Church.

He also seized the opportunity to reach out to other political parties to adopt him as a consensus candidate.

He said, “I want to re-affirm my call for an interim government and to ask those that are concerned, who are the political actors to consider me as a consensus candidate. I have referred to myself as a consensus remedial facilitator because of the existential threats that we have now and I think that it’s time for us to lay aside the habiliments of our political affiliations and to embrace a new nationalistic philosophy that can salvage this country at this time”.

Okotie Urges Nigerians To Love Beyond Ethnic Sentiment

okotieA senior pastor of the Household of God Church and a former presidential candidate of FRESH political party, Rev. Chris Okotie, has urged Nigerians to show love beyond ethnic sentiment.

Rev. Okotie made the statement in an Easter message on Sunday.

He urged Christians and Nigerians of other faith to emulate Jesus Christ, whom he said showed his love for mankind when he died and resurrected for all to be saved.

Christians all over the world celebrate Easter to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Chris from the dead and the redemption of mankind, as taught by the faith.

Easter is a day observed on the first Sunday after the “Pascal full moon” or the first full moon of spring following the spring equinox, which constantly falls on any Sunday between March 22 and April 25, according to the Gregorian calendar introduced by Pope Gregory in 1582.

Reasons For Delisting Political Parties By INEC Doesn’t Make Sense- Mok

Emmanuel_MokThe National Chairman of the National Transformation Party (NTP), Mr Emmanuel Mok, has faulted reasons the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has given for delisting political parties.

“A lot of the reasons that have been proffered as qualifying reasons for delisting, even the ones in the Electoral Act, are reasons that we have continued to make clear that these reasons don’t make sense.

“INEC’s argument to us have always not been strong arguments”, he said on Wednesday on Sunrise Daily.

Mr Mok noted that INEC is deliberately waiting for the National Assembly to finish with the constitutional review and include the electoral umpire’s power to delist political parties, which is already in the Electoral Act, part of the constitution, a situation he said will be “robbing the people of the fundamental right to associate and form political parties”.

He accused INEC of deliberately refusing to continue its appeal on the case of the Fresh Party.

The court had upturned INEC’s decision to delist the party from the list of political parties in Nigeria, “and that is why the judge emphasised that INEC as a matter of immediacy of urgency see that Hope Democratic Party is given the necessary required official recognition.

“As you know INEC has given the time table for the primaries of the next elections and if they continue as they have done with Fresh, then of course, Hope (Party) also will not be able to participate”, he said.

Mr Mok, who recalled that the present INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega was one of those who proposed the two party system, added that the system “put powers in the hands of power brokers.

“If someone is elected to be the chairman of both parties, these leaders will have so much power in vetting the whole political space and deciding those who can be presented to the people as candidates.

“But in a situation where you have a free entry space, it means that people who pay no allegiance to any power broker are able to come out and present themselves to the people”, he said, insisting that “it is necessary to leave these parties, especially when you don’t fund them”.

Mr Mok welcomed the new law allowing candidates to run independently, but was quick to add that “it is better for the polity to have multiple political parties”.

He maintained that a political party not winning in an election, does not make it irrelevant, insisting that “even if it costs INEC more money to conduct the activities of multiple political parties, it pays us to open the space so that the best candidate can be there in the public space”.

INEC had in December 2012 delisted 28 political parties including Rev. Chris Okotie’s Fresh Democratic Party; Balarabe Musa-led PRP; Tunji Braithwaite’s NAP, UNPP, ALP and 23 others for poor performances at the last general election and lack of operating offices in 36 states of the federation.

Others are said to have been affected in the exercise because they have been operating without office accommodation, political structure and short fall of operational staff.

Impersonating Pastor Chris Okotie Brought Me Fame – AY

Popular Comedian, Ayo Makun, also known as AY, has disclosed that his impersonation of popular Nigerian pastor, Chris Okotie got him his fame.

Popular Pentecostal Preacher, Chris Okotie is well known for his passionate sermons which are usually filled with complex mix of English and Latin vocabularies to the amazement of his large church and television audiences.

Speaking on Channels Television Saturday breakfast programme, Sunrise, AY said that his line of comedy focuses on stand-up, skit and impersonation as he is known to have also successfully made popular jokes by mimicking several Nigerian entertainers including D’Banj and Tuface Idibia.

He noted that while most Nigerian comedians are social commenters who know how to observe their environment and make jokes from everyday happenings, he had chosen a path that works best for him and which also helps him to maintain his originality.

He further attributed his fast rise in the business to the influence of the one popularly known in Nigeria as the ‘King of Comedy’, Ali Baba, stating that he was a mentor that helped him find his bearing in the art of comedy.

Speaking about moving forward, AY, who has consistently displayed an appreciable level of creativity with his production of TV shows, drama and comedy concerts, revealed that his next project would be working on a movie.

He revealed that the new movie would feature ageless Hollywood star, Vivica Fox.

I left Okotie’s house blameless – Stephanie Henshaw

It’s been three weeks now since Pastor Chris Okotie and his wife, Stephanie Henshaw separated.

Pastor Chris Okotie announced their separation to his congregation on a Sunday morning just before he began his usual sunday sermon. The separation has so far generated lots of criticism and questions from Nigerians, but Pastor Okotie has failed to respond to any of the critics.Stephanie  on the other hand spoke out on Tuesday via her Facebook wall,  explaining in details why and how the divorce happened. According to her, she was sent packing by Pastor Chris for no just cause.

Church announces Chris Okotie failed marriage

The Household of God Ministry on Monday released an official statement, announcing the dissolution of the marriage of its founder/General Overseer, Christopher Akpoborie Okotie, to Stephanie Henshaw.

The flamboyant preacher and three times presidential candidate of FRESH Democratic Party had on Sunday announced the separation to his congregation.

The official statement signed by the spokesman for the church, Ladi Ayodeji, read: “Pastor of our church, the Household of God, Oregun, Lagos, Rev. Chris Okotie, announced his separation from Stephanie, his wife of four years, at the end of service last Sunday.”

Mr Ayodeji said both parties arrived at this decision after careful review of the prevailing circumstances which pointed to the fact that it is the best option for them at this time, adding that both Pastor Okotie and his wife, Stephanie, have agreed to be silent on detailed reasons for the separation.

“They also agreed not to divulge details of this incident for personal reasons,” the statement added.

Rev. Okotie thanked concerned friends and well-wishers and asked for understanding, while expressing the “hope that their decision would be respected as no further details would be given on this issue.”

On August 7 and 8, 2008, the pop singer turned preacher married Stephanie Henshaw. The wedding was a colourful celebration of the couple who had both been previously married.

Mr Okotie, a law graduate, had been divorced from his first wife, Tyna, for over a decade while then 38-year old Stephanie had tasted two earlier marriages and had three children from the earlier marriages. Okotie’s marriage to Stephanie was his second attempt at matrimony. He was first married to Tyna for 17 years, but the marriage packed up without any child.
