Private Jets Must Not Operate Commercially – DG NCAA

The Director General in the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Capt. Dele Sasegbon, has commented on the new development and 2013 policy that the NCAA has directed on private jets saying the National Aviation Policy 2013 is supposed to guide the industry into the next phase of development.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Breakfast Show Sunrise Daily, Capt. Dele explained that privately certified aircraft are not allowed to do commercial services, so the government had to put a policy that will restrict the operations of private jet owners.

He also stated that insurance doesn’t cover passengers that are carried on private aircraft.

Capt. Dele mentioned the types of insurance that are needed for aviation.

• Public Liability Insurance: A third party liability which covers owners of the aircraft and issues that surrounds the damages of the aircraft in case of an accident.

• Passengers Liability Insurance: It protects the passenger that may be riding on the aircraft.

• Combined Limit Insurance: This covers both public and passenger liability especially passengers that may be injured and properties that are on ground.

He added that the insurance is used to protect the passengers and individuals that are carried and properties that are on ground.

He stated that the insurance that covers privately owned air crafts are not as much as commercial owned air crafts.

FG Sacks NCAA Boss

The curtain has finally fallen for the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Dr Harold Demuren, who on Monday was fired by President Goodluck Jonathan.

The President approved the removal of Dr Demuren with immediate effect from the 11th of March.

The dismissal of the aviation expert was announced in a three-paragraph statement from the office of the Secretary to the Federal Government, Mr Anyim Pius Anyim.

“Consequent to a careful consideration of Dr. Demuren’s unsatisfactory response to numerous concerns of stakeholders in the aviation sector, the federal government has decided to remove him” the statement read.

Presidency has been under immense pressure from the National Assembly to sack the NCAA boss over the handling of the Dana Air crash investigation.

The House of Representatives had in its recommendation following the Dana Air Crash approved that Dr Demuren, should be prosecuted for criminal negligence amidst other recommendations.

 The former NCAA boss is an Aeronautical Engineer and was appointed the Director General of theNCAA in December 2005.

Demuren elected regional chairman for Africa-Indian Ocean Aviation Authority

 The Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Dr. Harold Demuren has been elected the Chairman, of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Africa-Indian Ocean Regional Aviation Safety Group (RASG – AFI/1).

He was elected at the first meeting of the Regional Aviation Safety Group which is on-going in Kampala, Uganda. The meeting is to entrench safety initiatives that will improve safety in the region.

In attendance at the meeting are representatives of all the Civil Aviation Authorities in Africa and the Indian Ocean.

Other attendees are representatives of the United States Department of Transportation (DOT), Boeing Company, International Air Transport Association [IATA], International Federation of Airline Pilots’ Associations [IFALPA], The Agency for Aerial Navigation Safety in Africa known as Agence pour la Securitie de la Navigation  Aerienne en Afrique[ASECNA] and several donor nations among others.

The office of the Chairman has a subsisting tenure of two years.
