The National Orientation Agency (NOA) says it is planning more civic education for Nigerians to help them participate in governance.
The Director General of the NOA, Dr. Garba Abari, made the announcement at a forum organised by a civil society organisation, The Situation Room.
Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, Dr. Abari noted that the agency’s efforts would address issues of poor voter turnout during elections.
Speaking on behalf of other civil society organisations at the gathering, the Executive Secretary, The Situation Room, Clement Nwankwo, promised to sustain the tempo of NOA’s campaign for voter education.
The Nigerian government has appointed the Chief Executives of six information-related parastatals under the Ministry of Information and Culture.
The appointments were announced in Abuja on Wednesday by the Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed.
A statement by a spokesman for the Minster, Mr Segun Adeyemi, said that Mr Ishaq Modibo Kawu would take over as the Director-General, National Broadcasting Commission while Mr Mansur Liman was made the Director-General of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria.
Mr Yakubu Mohammed was made the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Dr. Garba Abari, Director-General of the National Orientation Agency, Mr Bayo Onanuga, Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria and Mr Osita Okechukwu, the Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria.
The new appointees replaced the Chief Executives of the parastatals who were disengaged on February 15.
The statement further said that the appointments take immediate effect.
