Obiano Gives Police Security Cars To Boost Security

Willie-ObianoThe Anambra State government has donated 25 advanced patrol vans and other tactical operation equipment for combating crime to the Police in the state.

Commissioning and test-driving the vehicles, Governor Willie Obiano said the latest security development was part of his commitment to eradicating crime in the Nigeria’s southeast commercial state.

“We have entered a new phase in the pursuit of security in Anambra State.

“These cars are modeled after the Rapid Response cars used by the police in the United States of America.

“The mere appearance of these cars gives a strong warning of the resolve of my administration to free our people from the fear of criminals for good,” Governor Obiano said.

Commending the Governor, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase, said Anambra State had set a worthy pace in security management in Nigeria.

He expressed optimism that the development would enhance police visibility in every area of the state as well as counter any threat to individual or collective security and safety.

The Police boss urged other State Executives especially in the South-eastern region, to emulate the Governor Obiano administration’s strategy in tackling security challenges.

While the Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke, shared the security exploits of the current administration, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Hassan Karma, gave an insight into what the advanced security cars could do in saving lives.

Senior police officers and other security agencies as well as government functionaries, traditional rulers, clergy and a large crowd of Anambra State citizens were all present at the security event.

IGP Lauds Obiano As He Commissions 25 Security Cars

CorruptionThe Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, says Anambra state  has set a worthy pace in security management in Nigeria which other state executives, especially those in the Southeast, should emulate.

He made this known during the commissioning of twenty five specially equipped American-styled patrol cars with special kits for the Police Response Team, which has speed guns to detect over speeding and alcohol detecting Device, donated by Anambra state government.

Th cars were handed over to the Anambra State Police Command for enhanced police visibility in every area of the state as well as counter any threat to individual or collective security and safety.

Governor Willie Obiano also maintains that the latest security development in the state is a strong narrative of his commitment to ensure that crime and criminality becomes a thing of the past.

Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke shared the security exploits of the current administration while the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hassan Karma, gave an insight into what the advanced security cars can do in saving lives.

The cars were commissioned and test driven by the governor in company of the Inspector General of Police who also commended the governor’s efforts.

Anambra: PDP Candidates Withdraw Petition, Supports Obiano

pdp candidates wit h draw petition from Anambra tribunalTwenty-One candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who lost the April 11 House of Assembly election in Anambra State, have withdrawn their petition from the Election Petition Tribunal.

After the PDP candidates withdrew the case, they pledged to support Governor Willie Obiano’s administration.

They had lost to the candidates of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) the same party that the Governor belongs to.

The PDP candidates said their action was in the spirit of moving the state forward,  citing the exemplary approach of President Goodluck Jonathan in conceding defeat to the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, as their inspiration.

Receiving the 21 man delegation at the Governor’s Lodge, Awka, the Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke, commended their resolve to sheathe their swords saying, they have done noble in placing the interest of the state above their personal gains.

The Leader of the delegation and former House of Assembly member, Honorable Egwuoyibo Okoye, added that distracting the governor in the tribunal would slow down the pace of development in the state.

 

Obiano Thanks Anambra Residents For Voting APGA

Anambra State Governor has thanked the people of the state for voting massively for the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in last Saturday’s House of Assembly election in the state.

Delivering the thank you message in a Special Broadcast at his Aguleri residence in Anambra East Local Government Area (LGA), Governor Willie Obiano said the gesture had massively renewed, re- invigorated and re-validated the sacred mandate the people had given him and his Deputy, Dr Nkem Okeke, to build a better state as well as a nudge to them to shape the future of Anambra state.

He said the victory of APGA in the House of Assembly election had exposed the large scale fraud perpetrated by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the presidential and National Assembly elections of March 28.

Governor Obiano said the PDP also made same attempt during last Saturday’s election, but was nipped in the bud, leading to the cancellation of the election in five state constituencies.

He however, urged the people of the state in the affected areas to be vigilant and ensure that their constitutional rights of deciding who represents them is not tampered with, while pledging maximum security towards a peaceful, free, fair, and credible election on Saturday, April 18.

INEC has rescheduled the elections in Ekwusigo, Anaocha and Aguata LGAs.

Obiano Gets 1.1bn Donation To Boost Agric And Security

Willie-Obiano-300x196The governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, has received a donation of one million dollars to be invested in the State’s security and one billion Naira for the agriculture sector.

The donation is coming barely 48 hours after the Court of Appeal in Enugu upheld the election of Governor Obiano.

After the court judgment, the governor begun to pay courtesy visits to well-meaning people of the state irrespective of party affiliation to support in building a better state.

The donation was made in one of such visits to the political leader of Ukpo community, Prince Arthur Eze.

The governor, who was in company of the deputy governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke, the national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Victor Umeh and other dignitaries, urged the people of the state, both home and in the diaspora, to emulate the gesture and support his administration.

At the home of the political leader of Ukpo in Dunukofia Local Government Area, Governor Obiano told Prince Arthur Eze that his administration’s agenda were hinged on agriculture, oil and gas, trade and commerce, and industrialisation with security as an enabler, which is an indispensable aspect.

He called on him and his people to, regardless of their political leaning, help and support his administration towards building a better state for the future of the children of the state.

In his response, the political leader of Ukpo community commended the effort of the governor and his political will in practically ridding the state of crime and criminality which had enveloped Onitsha and its environs in less than four months in office.

For the national chairman of the APGA, Victor Umeh, it was a commendable stride which would go a long way in transforming the state while believing that the governor will make judicious use of the funds.

 

APGA Inaugurates Grassroots Solidarity Forum For Electoral Victory In 2015

apga_smallThe All Progressives’ Grand Alliance, APGA, ahead of the 2015 general elections, inaugurated the APGA Solidarity Forum, ASF, to commence grassroots socio-economic and political development of the various communities in Anambra State and the country at large.

Addressing the party faithful that converged on Awka for the occasion on Saturday, the national chairman of the party, Victor Umeh, said the APGA would obtain a resounding victory in the upcoming election.

APGA solidarity forum was formally inaugurated and urged by the state chairman of the party, Mr Mike Kwentoh, to remain loyal to the parent body and work hard to spread across the country.

Also, the new president of the group, Mr Ebele Okafor, reminded his colleagues in the group that hard work and determination were the ground rules.

In attendance to the occasion were the deputy governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke, who represented the governor, Willie Obiano, immediate past deputy governor, Mr Emeka Sibeudu, the son of the late party leader, Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Jnr, and a host of other party stalwarts.

The party which in the last general elections lost the whole senatorial seats to the Peoples Democratic Party and the Action Congress now All Progressives Congress respectively, hopes that with the new political strategy of early mobilisation from the grassroots, the party, which is currently controlling only one state would have more states and many more representatives in the coming election.

 

Obiano Charges Contractors To Be Committed To Projects

Willie ObianoAnambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has told contractors that he will not sack any of them but is insisting on quality construction without which they will lose their contracts.

He said this in a meeting with all the contractors and consultants handling road and building projects in the state at the Conference Hall of the Government House, Awka.

They were summoned by the Governor to give account of how far they had gone executing the projects with a statement of when they would likely complete them.

The contractors took turns to make their presentations before the Governor, his deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke, the Secretary to the State Government, Oseloka Obaze, and the Commissioner for Works, Calistus Ilozumba.

Reacting to the submission of the contractors and consultants, the Governor expressed satisfaction over their presentations but reminded them that his administration would not tolerate incompetence of any sort.

He made it clear that he did not call the meeting to sack any of them but would do so if he detected non-commitment to delivering quality project to the state.

Mr. Obiano also announced to them the imminent set up of a supervisory team that would ensure their projects are as specified in the contract terms before any further payments would be made to them.

The State Commissioner for Works also urged the contractors to put up the best of performance to guarantee further business dealings, while maintaining that shoddy jobs would not be entertained.

The Governor, closing the meeting, informed the contractors that they would all still meet again to agree on a date of exact delivery on the projects each one of them was handling, as the state would not be kept in suspense for a project they have fully mobilized contractors for.

Willie Obiano Sworn-in As Governor Of Anambra State

Obiano sworn inDr. Willie Obiano has been sworn in as the new Executive Governor of Anambra State.

The swearing-in held at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, and was conducted by the state Chief Judge, Justice Peter Umeadi, in front of a mammoth crowd.

The swearing-in brings to an end, the 8 years of Governor Peter Obi’s administration, as he bows out of office amidst chants of excitement from the people of Anambra State who commended his administration as having performed creditably well.

Taking the oath of office, the new governor, who was sworn in alongside his deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke, emphasized security, power, and agriculture as areas of priority.

Former Governor, Peter Obi, expressed pride in the Anambra he was leaving behind. He recalled that when he assumed office in 2006, there was no office for him to move into and no official car for him, adding that his successor, Obiano was lucky to have things in place.

Emphasizing the financial stability of the state to accommodate more development, Obi went further to solicit support from the people for the new governor.

The Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji, among many other dignitaries from within and outside the country graced the occasion that was acclaimed to be the first time an outgoing governor would be witnessing the swearing in of an incoming governor. Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Inter-party Matters, Ndii Obi, represented the President at the ceremony.

Anambra’s new governor, a technocrat, who has worked as a banker, was sworn in to pilot the affairs of the state for four years.

Anambra State Governor Elect Promises To Expand Development

Willie Obiano, Governor Elect, Anambra State.The Anambra State Governor elect, Mr Willie Obiano, has promised to expound the boundaries of development and place the state on the map of rapidly advancing states.

In an acceptance speech in the early hours of Sunday, Mr. Obiano described the victory as a moment collectively worked for and hoped for, saying that the expressed will of the people have been finally enthroned.

“Ndi be anyi, (my people) I stand here tonight in the shadow of history. You made history when on November 16 and today, you cast your votes in favour of APGA. In doing so, you have affirmed the life long struggle of our great father, Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu. You also upheld his view that our people should preserve our heritage through one united political roof. Ndi Anambra (Anambra people) I want to thank you for honouring the memory of late Ikemba,” the All Progressives Grand Alliance member said.

The governor elect assured the indigenes of the state that his administration would uphold the tradition of excellence seen in the leadership of the incumbent governor, Peter Obi.

“Dr. Nkem Okeke (the deputy governor elect) and I are fully aware that after Governor Obi’s glorious reign, Anambra can only advance to higher glory. As inheritors of this tradition of purposeful leadership, we shall dedicate ourselves to a life of service. Our administration shall be responsible and responsive to your needs,” he promised.

Mr Obiano called for the collective effort of all indigenes of the state, saying that “development comes faster when there is a social contract between the leaders and the people.”

He called on the oppositions to join his administration in the march to make Anambra State a better place, pointing out that “the blood that binds Anambra indigenes is thicker than the politics that separates them.”

The governor elect will take over office in March 2014.
