Police Parades Criminals, Nab Suspected Rapists And Killers

PoliceThe Rivers State Police Command has paraded over 140 suspected kidnappers, robbers and cultists in the premises of the headquarters of the command in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Speaking during the parade, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Ahmad Mohammad, said over 748 arms and ammunition, four improvised explosives devices and at least 10 vehicles were recovered in the past two months.

He added that 38 suspects were reportedly killed in gun battle with the officers during various operations.

According to him, on parade are suspects who raped and killed a woman, and also killed another pastor in Ohigha Town, in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area.

Suspected Herdsmen Attack Rivers Community

HerdsmenThe Rivers State Police Command has dismissed what it called unsubstantiated reports in some sections of the media following a recent attack in Egi land, at Ohali-Elu town of Onelga in Rivers State.

The Police released a statement signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Mohammad, on Monday.

The Police said that on Thursday, at about 5:30am, the Police in Ohali-Elu town received reports that unidentified assailants suspected to be herdsmen had struck in the area, leaving one Pastor Geoffery Ogagaghene dead after severe cutlass cuts.

According to him, in the build up to the attack, there was an unreported case of stealing of unspecified number of cattle belonging to some herdsmen allegedly by some youths in the community.

“The case was never reported to the Police, (but) it is reasonably suspected that the attack might have been carried out by the herdsmen as reprisal for stealing their cows,” the Rivers Police Command said.

DSP Mohammad further said that although there were sources that put the death toll at six, the command could only confirm the death of Pastor Geoffery whose corpse was seen.

According to the command, calm has since returned to the town following the heavy deployment of armed mobile policemen to forestall breakdown of law and order.

Gunmen Kill One In Rivers State

Gunmen - RiversA member of the Caretaker Committee of Asari Toru Local Government Area, Godknows Babadiba, has reportedly been killed by unknown gunmen in Rivers State.

The Chairman of the committee, Soboma Jakrich, who confirmed the incident said that the body of the deceased was found bullet ridden after sporadic gunshots were heard in the area during the night.

According to Mr Jakrich, the deceased had complained of death threat calls from unknown persons prior to the killing.

He said that the incident had been reported to security agencies.

The chairman lamented that the deceased was not a politician but a businessman, who kept a good relationship with everyone in the community.

In his reaction, the Police Public Relations Officer in Rivers State, DSP Ahmad Mohammad, told Channels Television that the command was unaware of the incident.

Gunmen Kill Policeman In Rivers State

GunmenThe Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the killing of one of its men by gunmen in the waterlines area of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer of the command DSP Ahmad Mohammad said that the gunmen were robbers who were suspected to be fleeing from an operation.

According to him, the command is on the trail of the assailants in a bid to bring them to book.

DSP Mohammad gave assurances that the Police in Rivers State would continue its fight against crime and criminality in the state.

Police Confirm Kidnap Of Commissioner’s Mother In Rivers

ekiti drivers-police-oyo-akwa ibomThe Police have confirmed the kidnap of the mother of the Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications by unknown gunmen.

Mrs Patience Tam-George, who is the mother of Governor Nyesom Wike’s aide, Dr. Austin Tam-George, was kidnapped at about 8.55pm on Saturday on her way from church at Giogioma in Okrika Local Government Area of the state.

In his appeal, Dr. Tam-George said: “I am appealing to her abductors to release my mother unhurt to the family. My mother is a harmless woman.

“My mother, Patience, is 85 years old (and) my mother cannot hurt anyone. She had gone to church as she has done for years to pray and worship God.”

A family source also disclosed that the abductors had made contact with the family, but refused to reveal if the kidnappers have asked for a ransom.

“The kidnappers have contacted the family of our aged mother but we have no further information on what was discussed. We also do not have any information on whether they have demanded for a ransom or not,” he said.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Rivers State Police Command, DSP Ahmad Mohammad, confirmed that the command had received information about the kidnap of a woman in Okrika.

He, however, said that the information given to the Police did not suggest that the victim was the mother of the Rivers State Commissioner for Information and Communications.

The Police Public Relations Officer gave the assurance that efforts were in top gear to rescue the victim.

Former Rivers Lawmaker, Monday Eleanya Killed By Gunmen

EleanyaA former member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Monday Eleanya, has been killed by unknown gunmen in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Ahmad Mohammad, confirmed the incident.

He told Channels Television that the victim’s identity was not clear when the report first filtered in, hours after the victim was shot on Thursday, until later in the evening.

According to DSP Mohammed, the former lawmaker was on his way out of his house when he was accosted by armed men suspected to be robbers.

He said that although Eleanya’s car was not stolen, the assailants left him for dead and fled.

Mr Eleanya represented Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Constituency 1 between 1999 and 2003.

Gunmen Kill At Least Eight In Rivers

GunmenIt was a bloody day for the people of Ula Upata and Ahoada East Local Government Areas of Rivers State as gunmen killed at least eight people.

Reports revealed that the gunmen, numbering five, stormed Ula Upata community in the early hours of Wednesday leaving trails of blood.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Rivers State, DSP Ahmad Mohammad, confirmed to Channels Television that eight persons were killed in what the Police described as the handiwork of cultists.

DSP Mohammad said that it was the quick intervention of the force which stalled further bloodletting, confirming that one of the suspected gunmen had been arrested and was found to be in possession of an English pump action gun.

However, some eyewitnesses claimed that at least 16 persons were killed in the deadly attack.

An eyewitness who spoke anonymously said that the assailants moved from house to house killing ten persons in the Ula Upata community before moving to Ahoada where at least six more were killed.

The Police spokesman said investigations were going on to bring the culprits to book.

For now, the command said that more men have been deployed to restore peace and order in the affected communities

Rivers Police Rescue Kidnapped GM Of Dolphins FC

Dolphins The General Manager of Dolphins FC, Joe Johnson, who was abducted on Sunday, October 11 by gunmen in Port Harcourt the Rivers State capital, has been rescued by men of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Rivers State Police Command.

Joe Johnson told Channels Television that he was ambushed on his way to the airport to honour a scheduled match against Giwa FC by his assailants.

According to him, while members of his family were negotiating ransom in the range of 15million naira, he was confident that he was going to get out alive.

His optimism paid off when men of the Rivers State Police Command stormed the uncompleted building where he had been held hostage on Thursday evening.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Ahmad Mohammad, said that the rescue operation was part of the command’s onslaught against kidnapping in the state.
