Obiano Rejects NASS Election Result

obianoThe Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has condemned the results of the National Assembly election, saying it was hijacked at the collation stage by elements of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) extraction.

Governor Obiano, who is a member of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), while speaking with journalists in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area, said that the seeming victory of the PDP in the National Assembly elections would be challenged in court.

Mr Obiano, while reminding the people of the April 11 elections, assured the people of Anambra that the mandate of APGA candidates would be reclaimed.

The Governor also commended President Jonathan for his statesmanship and humble acceptance of the outcome of the Presidential election, also congratulating the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari for his victory at the polls.

Governor Obiano had expressed his concerns on the election day. In an interview on Channels Television’s special election programme, Nigeria 2015, he called the overall performance of the card reader device in the state ‘a disaster’, noting that his fingerprints could not be captured despite several attempts. “It was in my opinion a disaster at the early stages”, Obiano said.

The Governor also listed other issues recorded in the state, including nonavailability of result sheets at some polling units as well as cases of thuggery.

Manual accreditation was eventually applied in the state. Nevertheless, issues and complaints continued to trail the polls.

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC), led by the Senator representing Anambra Central and a leader of the party in the state, Senator Chris Ngige, on Monday condemned the election and called for its cancellation.

In a press briefing, Senator Ngige, demanded that another election should be conducted. He cited challenges with the use of card readers and the issue of party members being held hostage in some parts of the state.

Asking ICC To Investigate Patience Jonathan Is Absurd – Fani-Kayode

APCThe Director of Media and Publicity for the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Femi Fani-Kayode has described the call for the investigation of the Nigerian First Lady, Mrs Patience Jonathan, by the International Criminal Court (ICC) as “absurd and an empty ranting of the opposition”.

Mr Fani-Kayode also took a swipe on the APC presidential candidate, retired General Muhamadu Buhari, insisting that he is the one that has questions to answer in the Hague.

“Empty And Boastful Ranting”

He said: “We read with amusement, the threat by the Buhari campaign organisation through the spokesperson, Mr Garuba Shehu, that it is their intention to drag the First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, before the International Criminal Court of Justice (ICC), for allegedly indulging in what they described as “hate speech” at a recent rally in River State.

“Their threat to take the First lady before the ICC is not only absurd, but it is also nothing but the empty and boastful ranting of a perfidious, desperate, decaying and dying political party and such threat will amount to nothing.

“The truth is that if anybody is a candidate for the ICC, it is certainly not Dame Patience Jonathan, but rather General Mohammadu Buhari himself”.

Mr Fani-Kayode further said that another episode which Buhari had questions to answer, was his role in a mass murder of hundreds of people in the northern part of Nigeria. He alleged that General Buhari’s supporters murdered a number of young youth corpers who were in their prime in 2011.

‘Stone Anybody’

The APC Presidential Campaign Organisation had lodged a formal complaint against Nigeria’s First Lady, Mrs Jonathan, to the ICC and other agencies over statements credited to her asking Nigerians to stone anybody calling for change in the country.

Mrs Jonathan allegedly made the statement at the PDP Women Campaign in Calabar, Cross River State, last week .

The letter of complaint was signed by the Director General of the Buhari Campaign Organisation and Governor of Rivers State, Mr Rotimi Amaechi.

Governor Amaechi, said by her statement, the First Lady was clearly asking the PDP to attack the APC supporters because Nigerians know that change is the slogan of the opposition party.

Governor Amaechi lamented Mrs Jonathan’s hate speech, saying it contravened the laws and also the Abuja Peace Pact endorsed by the 13 presidential candidates in the March 28 election.

Nigerian Youths Tasked On Quality Leadership At Polls

Nigerian YouthsNigerian Youths had been urged to be at the forefront of efforts aimed at electing credible leaders that would focus on all levels development in next month’s general election.

They were also told to ensure that their voices would be heard in the process of building a progressive nation.

This was part of the messages at the 2014/2015 Orientation Lecture for the newly admitted Students of the Federal University of Agriculture, entitled “The Roles of Students in Building a Progressive Nation”. It was organised by the Students’ Union, held at the Ceremonial Hall of the University in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital.

The Orientation Lecture was aimed at exposing the newly admitted Students to the minimum standard code of conduct expected of them on campus, especially at a time when moral decadence had continue to take its toll on the teaching and learning system of the younger generation.

The Guest Lecturer, Adedayo Thomas, who represented the All Progressives Congress’ Presidential Candidate, Rtd General Muhammadu Buhari, at the occasion, admonished the newly admitted students to be patriotic, shun corruption and work towards a united and egalitarian country of equal opportunity.

Some participants said that as political activities hot up in different parts of Nigeria, it was good that the Nigerian youths were being cautioned in order not to make themselves instruments in the hands of selfish politicians for selfish interests.
