Governor Amosun Declares Support For Nollywood Awards

Organizers of the annual Best of Nollywood Awards (BON) have partnered with the Ogun state government for the 2017 edition of the awards which is geared to celebrate excellence in Nigerian movie industry.

The state governor, Ibikunle Amosu hosted a courtesy visit from the curators of the event including ambassadors Segun Arinze and Bolaji Amusan.

Amosu appreciated the contributions of the Nigerian creative industry to the Nigerian economy and promised that the government would continue to look for ways to improve the structures of the creative industry.

“I’m happy that the journey of Nollywood Awards started in Ogun State; because this state is the home of notable figures in the entertainment industry like Hubert Ogunde, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Olu Jacobs and many new generation entertainers and we shall continue to support the industry, by providing enabling environment for the growth of that sector and all sectors of the economy.”He said

Best of Nollywood Awards is an annual film event presented by Best of Nollywood Magazine honouring outstanding achievement in the Nigerian Movie Industry.

The first edition was held on December 6, 2009, in Ikeja, Lagos State.

Gov Amosun Challenges Exco Members On Task AheadOgun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has charged members of his cabinet to brace up for greater tasks ahead, saying it required a collective efforts to deliver more dividends of democracy to the people in the New Year.

Governor Amosun gave the charge at the first executive council meeting of the year held at the Exco Chamber, Governor’s office, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.

The Governor, who prayed for a prosperous year, gave the assurance that his administration was determined to do more to surpass the achievements of the previous year, while appreciating the cabinet members for their support and dedication.

He used the occasion to congratulate the outgoing Head of Service, Mr Olusola Adeyemi for his achievements and meritorious service to the State in the past 35years affirming that the Head of Service had contributed in no small measure to the success story of the present administration.

Responding to the gesture of the Governor and other executive members, the Head of Service, Sola Adeyemi, appreciated the state government for the opportunity given him to serve the people of the state.

Amosun Congratulates Buhari at 74Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari, on his 74th birthday.

In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant (Media), Mr. Adejuwon Soyinka, the Ogun State Governor joined family, friends, political associates and well-wishers to celebrate the President on the occasion of his birthday, on Saturday.

“On this occasion of your birthday, we celebrate you and your commitment to the socio-economic and political development of our dear nation, Nigeria,” the Governor said.

Governor Amosun added that, “at 74, the President’s work ethics, commitment to the Nigerian nation and style of leadership is indeed a great lesson to the younger generation.”

The governor prayed that Allah continues to grant the President good health, sound mind and fulfilment in his efforts to steer the ship of the Nigerian state in the right direction.

Governor Amosun Unveils 2016 Ogun Investors’ Forum

Investors' ForumThe Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has asked genuine investors to take advantage of the business friendly atmosphere being put in place by the state government and invest in the state.

He made the call in Abeokuta, the state capital, while unveiling the 3rd Ogun State Investors’ Forum slated for between May 10 and 11.

With the theme; ‘Environment, Agriculture, Transportation: Ogun State Emerging Economic Power House’, the event will focus on drawing attention to the opportunities in the environment, transportation and agriculture sector of the state economy.

While giving a clean bill of health to the state’s economic standing despite the current financial challenges, Governor Amosun said that the state has not done badly. He put the debt profile of the state at 65 billion Naira.

Commenting on the two previous editions of the investors’ forum, the Governor said that the state has been able to attract well over 100 million dollar investments in various sectors of the economy.

He expressed optimism that the 2016 edition would attract more successes to the state.

Eid-el-Fitr: Amosun Preaches Peaceful Coexistence Among Nigerians

amosunAs Muslims around the world celebrate the Feast of Breaking the Fast (Ed-el-Fitr) on Friday July 16, the Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has called on Muslims to be in the vanguard of the campaign for peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.

In his Eid-el-Fitr message signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Taiwo Adeoluwa, Governor Amosun expressed hope that Nigeria will overcome its current challenges and emerge a strong, united and prosperous nation.

“The attributes of self-discipline, compassion, brotherliness and patriotism exhibited during the holy month of Ramadan, if sustained, will bring within our reach and attainment, the dreams of our founding fathers for a united and prosperous nation,” he said.

The Governor also tasked Muslims on respect for the sanctity of life, noting that “Islam is a religion of peace”.

Governor Amosun enjoined all adherents of Islam to continue to strengthen their relationship with the Almighty Allah through fasting and prayers and obedience to the teachings of Prophet Muhammed (SAW).

Amosun wished the Muslim Ummah a happy celebration.

Amosun Inaugurates 8th Ogun State House Of Assembly

amosunThe Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has inaugurated the 8th legislature of the State House of Assembly, urging the lawmakers not to betray the confidence reposed in them in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.

At a ceremony held at the State House of Assembly on Monday, Mr Suraj Adekunbi from Yewa-north Local Government Area was re-elected Speaker while Mr Olakunle Oluomo from Ifo Constituency 1 emerged the Deputy Speaker.

Other principal officers of the house were also elected.

The 26-members Assembly has 19 All Progressives Congress (APC) and nine Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members.

The Speaker, Suraj Adekunbi, administered the oath of office and allegiance on other members of the House.

After the oath taking process, the Speaker promised the unwavering commitment of the House to the overall development of Ogun State.

Governor Amosun, while calling for synergy among all Arms of Government, however, urged the newly inaugurated Assembly members to effectively discharge their duties.

Amosun Seeks Proper Monitoring Of Petroleum Pipelines

Ogun stateThe Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, has asked the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and other authorities to adopt proactive measures  that would end pipeline vandalism.

Governor Amosun told reporters at the site of a vandalised pipeline in Ogere, in Ikenne Local Government area of the state that the NNPC should be held responsible for incidents of pipeline vandalism, which he said had cost Nigeria billions of Naira, with loss of lives and properties.

He was in Ikenne for an assessment of a vandalised petroleum pipeline that had caught fire after vandals attempted to steal petroleum product from it.

Officials of the Ogun State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC) said they got a tip-off that vandals were at the site and that there were signs of fire outbreak.

Although no arrests were made, the spokesman for the NSCDC, Mr Kareem Olanrewaju, said the officials of the security agency contained the fire. He said the situation would have been worse but for the prompt response of the command.

A team of the NNPC maintenance department is reported to have visited the site of the vandalised pipeline to effect repairs.

The Governor called for a proactive measure by authorities concerned to ensure an end to cases of pipeline vandalism.  He promised to provide needed cooperation and assistance required.

Governor Amosun was accompanied through the rough road by the State Commander of the NSCDC where he (governor) alleged culpability by  the NNPC.

The Governor suggested  harmonious relationship between the NNPC and Governors of States where the pipes were located and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, as a measure towards providing protection for pipelines across the country.

Amosun Preaches Harmony At Easter

amosunThe Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, joined millions of Christians around the world to observe the Easter season, stressing the need for harmony among Nigerians.

In a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Mrs Olufunmilayo Wakama, Governor Amosun stressed the need for harmony in the quest for a new Nigeria, irrespective of ethnic, political and religious affiliations.

He said that “the period is symbolic for us as a nation, having recently elected a new President”.

“As we commemorate the resurrection of Christ, I see a new Nigeria under the leadership of the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari and I urge all well meaning Nigerians to join hands with him to bring about accelerated socio-economic progress,” he said.

The governor urged all Christians and Nigerians to ponder over the supreme sacrifice of Jesus Christ, and take a cue from His selflessness, by eschewing all forms of political, social and religious vices.

Governor Amosun prayed for God’s guidance and blessings for the leadership of Buhari and continuity in Ogun State, as Nigerians go to the polls to choose their representatives in the forthcoming Gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections.

Amosun also wished everyone a blessed celebration.

Ogun State Government Refute Plans To Sack Workers

ogunThe Ogun State Government has refuted the allegations by the Presidential Campaign Organisation (PCO) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that it was planning to reduce the size of its work force, if Governor Ibikunle Amosun is re-elected next month.

In a press statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Yusuph Olaniyonu, the government described the allegations as false.

It further stated that, not only was there any plan to retrench workers, but a fresh recruitment exercise was at an advanced stage.

“We have no reason to reduce the size of the work force because the workers remain an integral part of the successful pursuit of our mission to rebuild Ogun State. Indeed, our assessments have indicated need for additional personnel in key areas. They have contributed to the visible developments in our state.”

“That is why despite the fact that the immediate past government defaulted on its salary wage bill which was about 4billion naira just before the advent of our administration, we have successfully coped with  increase in total public sector wage bill to N6.2 billion a month and we have paid the workers up to date”

“Again, we have not only cleared the backlog of salaries and deductions inherited from the last PDP administration, we have also paid 42 months deductions without any hitch. We now have an arrangement with workers on how to pay the outstanding ones and that was one of the agreements we reached with the workers during our last interactive session with them”, the Government stated.

It was also stated that the present administration in Ogun State is worker friendly, and that is why it has recruited over 20,000 workers into various sections of the public service in the last three and half years.

The government however assured the workers that the Amosun administration will continue to protect their interests by giving them their dues and the size of service that would continue to grow, so that the state can cope with the challenges from its emerging modern economy.

The Government further advised the people to ignore the falsehood being dished out by the opposition party.

Ogun State Police Command Discovers Kidnappers Den In Ijebu-Igbo

Kidnappers arrested in Ogun StateThe Ogun State Police Command has discovered a den belonging to kidnappers in a neighborhood in Ijebu Igbo Area of the State.

Five suspects including a serving councillor in the State have been arrested by the police in connection with the discovery.

From a distance, the uncompleted building in 7, Egbe Road, Ijebu Igbo Area of Ogun East Senatorial District would pass for any other building where people live and earn their legitimate income.

But with a closer look, it’s not. Latest discovery by the police reveals it is a den for kidnappers.

Inside the building, in one of the dark rooms is a shrine with charms and other fetish items lavishly displayed.

While some of the suspects confessed to their crime, others denied any link.

Presently, five suspects are in police net including the serving councilor from Odogbolu Local Government Area of the State.

The Police Commissioner in the State, Valentine Ntomchukwu, said the two building would remain sealed while investigations continue.

 

Governor Amosun Warns Against Sale Of PVC

As governor amosunNigerians count down to the general elections, the Ogun state Governor, Mr Ibikunle Amosun, has warned against the sale of Permanent Voters Card (PVC) by residents of the state, stressing that such act may deny the expected change in the polity.

Governor Amosun made the call while addressing party supporters in Ijebu Igbo, Ijebu North Local Government on Saturday on the second round of campaign to the local government for his re-election bid.

The governor while promising more developmental projects in the area, however, pledged not to betray the confidence reposed in his administration if voted in for a second term.

The Governor was received with cheers  by thousands of residents and party supporters in Ijebu Igbo, Ogun West Senatorial District.

After this, the train moved to the Ijebu Igbo motor park, where the crowd were already waiting to receive him.

Governor Amosun solicited votes from the electorates for his party, and those candidates seeking various positions at state and national level under the APC and also stressed the need for residents to obtain their PVCs.

Some residents of the area said they clamour for his re-election, based on what they describe as a result of his monumental achievements across the three senatorial districts of the state.

As the elections draw nearer, politicians have kept up the tempo of the campaign for violence-free elections in the interest of peace and harmony by engaging in a several peace accord.

APC Screening Committee Clears Gov Amosun

AmosunThe National Screening Committee for governorship aspirants in the South West under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has cleared Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State.

Chairman of the committee and former Governor of Gombe State, Senator Danjuma Goje, while presenting the screening certificate to Governor Amosun in Lagos, revealed that only Ogun State has one candidate in the South West.

While noting that the presentation of the certificate meant that Governor Amosun had been cleared to go into the party’s primaries, he commended the Governor for the developmental strides being recorded since he became the Governor of the state.

Responding, Governor Amosun commended the party leadership for the cream of experienced statesmen that made up the committee, pointing out that he, alongside his colleagues, would still fly the flag of APC in Ogun.

He stated that the party’s manifesto, which is development-oriented, is paramount to his administration in the Gateway State.

He expressed confidence that the APC would be victorious in the 2015 presidential election and would thereby extend development to the length and breadth of the country.
