Obiano Recognises Exemplary Service Of Civil Servants In Anambra

Obiano, civil servant, AnambraIn commemoration of the 2016 African Public Service Day, Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano has recognised 35 civil servants for their exemplary service.

The event which drew workers from various departments of the Anambra State Civil Service, took place at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat in Awka, Anambra State Capital on Friday, September 30.

The venue reverberated with excitement as the selected workers were one after the other, called up to receive their certificates of recognition and a handshake from the governor.

Gov. Obiano urged them however, not to relent on their hard work, while assuring all workers of full salary payment before Christmas.

The occasion was one that clearly portrayed the relationship between government and workers.

An award recipient, Nwabufo Nwankwo was among workers who expressed excitement over the government’s deeds as well as the cordial relationship that exists between them and the civil servants.

Commencement of 1000-Unit Housing Scheme

In separate speeches, Chairman of the Occasion, Professor Joe Ogbuagu and the Head of Service of Anambra state, Mr. Harry Udu, both pointed out the achievements of the governor towards improving the welfare of workers.

This according to them is especially in the area of prompt payment of salaries, provision of transportation for workers and the recent commencement of a 1000 unit housing scheme, to resolve the accommodation challenges facing the state civil servants.

Addressing the massive gathering of workers, the governor, Willie Obiano, commended their diligence, and also the support they have given him to drive the economic development of the state.

He emphasised the “full payment of their December remuneration and allowances before Christmas, as well as ensuring the promotion of workers next year”.

In a vote of thanks from the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communication Strategy, Mr. Benjamin Umerah, he noted that “Anambra workers have been marching forward since governor Willie Obiano’s assumption of office”.

He therefore urged them to “keep supporting him for better life and prosperous service”.

Celebration Of Public Servants

The Public Service Day is set aside by the African Union to draw attention to the central and unique roles which the public servants play in the governance process of member nations.

While it is usually observed at Continental and National levels on June 23rd of every year, each sub-national government is allowed to mark its own on any day and month taking into view circumstances peculiar to it.

Anambra Signs Housing Agreement With Aldove Limited

Community PartnershipAnambra State Government has signed an agreement with Aldove Limited for the construction of 300 Housing Units worth $30 million dollars.

The Governor of the state, Mr Willie Obiano, who signed the agreement on behalf of the State Government, said housing was an enabler in his administrative blue print.

He told reporters on Wednesday that the sector had received quality attention, attracting investments of about one billion dollars within two years of his administration.

Governor Obiano guaranteed the investor that his government was committed to meeting its side of the bargain and urged the company to start off immediately and ensure that the project was realised within the specified period.

The Memorandum of Understand incorporates the design, building and financing of 100 units of four to five bedroom duplexes, another 100 of three bedroom flats on two floors and another one hundred on three floors.

The project, which has its first phase to be completed within 18 months, has the state equity contribution put at $9 million dollars while the investor is to bring the remaining $21 million dollars.

According to the Chairman of Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency, His Royal Highness Cyril Enweze, whose office is responsible for arranging state investment business transactions, explained that the project would promote urban development, create employment opportunities and generate activities around the state that would enhance the state’s Internally Generated Revenue capacity.

Meanwhile, the Chairman and Managing Director of Aldove Limited, Mr Maja Umeh, said the decision to bring the investment to Anambra was motivated by the company’s resolve to support the developmental agenda of Obiano administration.

While signatures are appended to the project that will contribute in no small measure in transforming the housing sector, there are high hopes of realising the vision of providing affordable housing to all by the year 2017.

Obiano Swears In Youngest Commissioner To Manage State’s Economy

May DayThe Governor of Anambra State, Mr Willie Obiano, has sworn in the youngest Commissioner for Economic Planning, Budget and Development Partners.

The swearing in ceremony of the new commissioner took place during the State Executive Council Meeting at the Government House, Awka.

On the choice of Mr Okoye for the position being the youngest commissioner in Nigeria, Governor Obiano said: “His appointment is consistent with my insistence on quality, merit and his youth-friendly stance”.

He stated that the Commissioner had been a key member of the state’s Economic Team and had played very strategic role in the development of the economic blueprint of the state.

The Governor tasked him on bringing his wealth of academic knowledge and experience in financial management to bear in his new assignment.

The Director of Civil Litigation of the Ministry of Justice, Mr Apata Adebayo, administered the oath of office and allegiance on the new commissioner.

The Commissioner’s appointment was confirmed last week by the Anambra State House of Assembly after serving as the Special Adviser on Economic Planning and Budget to the Governor.

The 30-year-old Commissioner is to continue to show expertise and professionalism in the discharge of his duties in his newly appointed Ministry.

The Commissioner commended the Governor for his appointment which was a bold statement on the abundant potentials that abound in Nigerian Youths and on the need for government at all levels to give them a chance.

He assured that he would ensure that the State remained progressive in its economic policies though his appointment. His appointment brings the number of commissioners to 19 in Anambra State.

Tinubu, Obiano And Others Win ‘Sun Awards’

Anambra-State-Governor-Willie-ObianoA former Governor of Lagos State, Senator Bola Tinubu, the  Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano and other persons from different walks of life clinched different Sun Awards on Saturday.

Senator Tinubu who is the leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, was named the Sun Man of the Year, having contributed a lot to the victory of his political party in the 2015 General election, defeating the Peoples Democratic Party that had ruled for 16 years.

He thanked the organisers of the awards, the Sun Newspaper.

Governor Obiano was named the Sun Governor of the Year at an event held in Lagos State to honour all winners.

After the award, the Governor said he was happy to have been named ‘the Sun Governor of the Year’.

“I am dedicating the award to the ordinary citizens of Anambra State. The daily road sweepers, the zero porthole guys that maintain our roads, the investors that heeded our call to come and invest in Anambra, the farmers that are working hard to put us on the map and more importantly the security outfits that have today made Anambra the safest state in Nigeria,” Governor Obiano stated.

He said that the award was a push that would make him put more efforts to the service of Anambra citizens.

“By God’s grace I am not going to disappoint them,” the Anambra State Governor stressed.

Since his swearing in Governor Obiano has vigorously worked to actualise his vision through his four pillars of development, aggressive merchandise agriculture, oil and gas, Trade and Commerce and industralisation.

Born in Aguleri, a town in Anambra State, Eastern Nigeria, he received a bachelor’s degree in Accountancy from the University of Lagos in 1979 and a Master of Business Administration from the same university.

The Sun Awards for 2015 also saw some persons in different sectors of the Nigerian economy emerge as awardees.


Obiano Inspects Second Niger Bridge

ObianoAn Engineer at the Federal Ministry of Works, Mr Edward Bosah, says work on the Second Niger Bridge project has reached its third phase, contrary to speculation that work on the project had stopped.

He made the revelation during the inspection tour of the construction site by the Governor of Anambra State, Mr Willie Obiano, at the main yard and camp site of Julius Berger, the construction firm handling the project.

The Site Engineer, Mr. Stefan Ueseman, also hosted the Governor in the situation room and took him through a presentation of the work being done.

Governor Willie Obiano said that he was pleased with the progress of work at the site but stressed the need for more pace in activities to ensure that the project is delivered at the scheduled period.

The second Niger Bridge is a 1.596 kilometre highway project with six lanes – three lanes each to and from Anambra and Delta states.

It had a 48 months completion period when the project was awarded in 2013.

Anambra Schools Get Multi-million Naira Projects

governor obianoThe Governor of Anambra State has commissioned completed multi-million Naira projects in two Schools in Onitsha, the commercial city of the state.

The projects are part of Governor Willie Obiano’s commitment to improving the academic and infrastructural standards of education across public and mission schools in the south-south Nigerian State.

They were completed through a functional relationship between the State Government and the mission.

A hostel and refectory worth 64 million Naira and a perimeter fence, constructed at Queen of the Rosary College (QRC) and Anglican Girls’ Secondary School, Onitsha were part of the projects.

Expressing appreciation to the government, the Principal of QRC, Reverend Sister Maria Nwankwo, commended the State Governor for continuing, completing and commissioning projects begun by his predecessor and urged him to commence with new projects which she hoped would involve the reconstruction of dilapidated structures in the school.

The Governor, in his response, cited his secondary school days at Christ the King College, which was opposite the girl’s school, talking about their mass celebration in one of the halls.

He acknowledged the truth in the principal’s submission and promised to address the issue, especially the erosion menace that is threatening the school.

Governor Obiano further moved on to an Anglican Girls’ Secondary School at Nkpor, where a perimeter fence built by the State Government was also commissioned.

The School Principal, Peace Ofoche, also applauded the Governor for his determination in the area of security and education, where he has introduced measures that have not only given a boost to academic experience in the state, but have also motivated teachers.

She enumerated the benefits of the fence around their school which among many, was the idea of cutting off refuse dumping in the school premises.

The Governor, who expressed displeasure over the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the school premises by traders in a nearby market, however, ordered the Commissioner for Environment to do the needful and provide receptacles for the market.

Peter Obi Resigns as APGA BoT Chairman and Leader

Peter obiThe former Governor of Anambra State, Mr Peter Obi, has tendered his resignation letter as Leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance and the Chairman of the Party’s Board of Trustees.

In a resignation letter addressed to the National Secretary of the Party and submitted in the Party’s Abuja office on Thursday, Mr Obi said that he was resigning as Leader and BoT Chairman, into which he was appointed in January 2014 by the National Executive Council of the Party, which, according to him, was yet to be ratified by a Convention of the party as stipulated by the constitution.

Obi cited family and personal reasons, but did not give details. He, however, wished the party well in future endeavors. He stated that he remains an ordinary APGA member.

When contacted, his Media Aide, Mr Valentine Obienyem, confirmed the development.

“If you recall, my boss was nominated the Leader of the Party and the Chairman of her Board of Trustees in January. The nomination was yet to be ratified by a Convention of the Party, when he submitted his letter of resignation.

“Since the convention will take place next year, people have found it convenient to blame him for the woes of the Party on the reason that he had failed to intervene on matters affecting the party, not knowing that without ratification of his nomination, he had no platform under which to intervene,” he said.

Obienyem said that his boss remained an APGA member, and would continue to support the Party at all times.

APGA is presently witnessing mass exodus of her key members, who cite the appropriation of the party by one man as a reason.

Peter Obi was Governor of Anambra State in Nigeria from March 17, 2006 to November 2, 2006, when he was impeached and from February 9, 2007 to May 29, 2007 after his impeachment was overturned.

Although a fresh election was held on April 29, 2007, he was reappointed Governor on June 14, 2007 after a court ruling that he should be allowed to complete a four-year term.

He won a February 6, 2010 election for a second term as governor and was succeeded on March 17, 2014, by Willie Obiano of the All Progressives Grand Alliance.

Obiano Holds Development Forum, Reels Out Vision

At an interactive forum at the governor’s lodge at Amawbia on Saturday, Mr Obiano sought stakeholders support for his vision, stressing the need for indigenes of the state to set aside political differences and join hands with the governor to launch the state on the path of sustainable economic development.

Governor Obiano urged the galaxy of politicians, administrators, and captains of industry to place the interest of the state above every other consideration.

The interactive session attracted principal political stalwarts from different political parties, industrialists, business tycoons, the clergy, traditional rulers, administrators and opinion leaders among others.

Addressing the dignitaries of Anambra origin, the governor reeled out his administrative blue print which rested on four pillars- Agriculture, Oil and gas, Trade and Commerce and Industrialisation.

The governor hopes to elevate the state to an enviable economic height exploring these sectors are have not been given so much attention.

He said his government had drawn a road map to effectively unlock and harness the untapped resources in the state, attract investors, create wealth and employment opportunities as well as bring a permanent solution to crime and anti-social activities which already has been on the decline since his assumption of office.

Stakeholders in the interactive forum pledged their support and further gave their views on how the state should be moved forward in the light of the governor’s appeal.

The Nigeria Ambassador to Spain, Bianca Ojukwu, alongside the controversial Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the November 16 governorship election in Anambra state said the meeting was crucial as it would rebuild the bond that would encourage the people to give the governor a total support.

They also made strong points on why every citizen of the state, especially, those in the business of wealth creation should bring their ingenuity to bear in the development of the state.

With the resolve by the stakeholders to support the state government and as well take the news to their brothers and sisters in different parts of the country, it is no doubt that a new road map has been drawn for a sustainable economic growth of Anambra state.

Obiano Appoints Three Principal Officers

Willie ObianoIn his first official duty as the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, has appointed three principal officers to aid him in his new office.

Assisted by the Solicitor-General of the state, Peter Afuba, the Governor led the officers through the oath taking ritual at the swearing-in ceremony which took place at the Governor’s Office in Awka, the state capital.

In the spirit of continuity, Mr. Oseloka Obaze has been reappointed as the Secretary to the State Government, having served in former governor, Peter Obi’s administration in the same capacity.

Also appointed sworn-in was Professor Joseph Asike, who is to serve as Chief of Staff and Willie Nwokolo who would serve as Principal Secretary.

The Governor, in glowing terms, described the quality of the new officials and said that they would in no small measure help in the continued development of the state. He also expressed confidence that they would work according to expectation.

Reacting to the appointment on behalf of the other officers, the newly reappointed Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Oseloka Obaze, gave assurances of quality and sincere service.

As the Governor had said, other appointments would follow and the coming days would determine who stays and who leaves the cabinet as expectations remain high from those within and outside the government.

Willie Obiano Sworn-in As Governor Of Anambra State

The swearing-in held at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, and was conducted by the state Chief Judge, Justice Peter Umeadi, in front of a mammoth crowd.

The swearing-in brings to an end, the 8 years of Governor Peter Obi’s administration, as he bows out of office amidst chants of excitement from the people of Anambra State who commended his administration as having performed creditably well.

Taking the oath of office, the new governor, who was sworn in alongside his deputy, Dr. Nkem Okeke, emphasized security, power, and agriculture as areas of priority.

Former Governor, Peter Obi, expressed pride in the Anambra he was leaving behind. He recalled that when he assumed office in 2006, there was no office for him to move into and no official car for him, adding that his successor, Obiano was lucky to have things in place.

Emphasizing the financial stability of the state to accommodate more development, Obi went further to solicit support from the people for the new governor.

The Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji, among many other dignitaries from within and outside the country graced the occasion that was acclaimed to be the first time an outgoing governor would be witnessing the swearing in of an incoming governor. Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Inter-party Matters, Ndii Obi, represented the President at the ceremony.

Anambra’s new governor, a technocrat, who has worked as a banker, was sworn in to pilot the affairs of the state for four years.

Obi Meets Umeh For APGA’s Reconciliation

The forthcoming governorship election in Anambra state may be bringing good tidings for the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, as as the warring factions  have reconciled.

The national leadership of the party led by the Victor Umeh on Monday, met with the Governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi, alongside some members of the state chapter of the party.

The meeting which held at the Government House in Awka is a signal that the Umeh led faction and the Obi faction may have sheathed their swords to work together.

Mr Umeh told journalists after the reconciliation meeting that the crisis in APGA is over and it is a new dawn which portends good for the party.

Umeh regained the mantle of leadership of the party few weeks ago after an Appeal Court upheld the decision of the High Court in his favour against Maxi Okwu’s mandate who is said to have been supported by Governor Obi.

The governorship election in Anambra is slated to hold in November this year.
