Rochas Lays Imo State University Foundation

rochas okorocha3As part of commitment to ensure provision of quality education in Imo state, the State Governemnt has laid the foundation of the Imo State University (IMSU) Mbaise/Ngorokpala campus, which is to house the faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine.

During the foundation laying of the university campus at Mbaise- Ngorokpala federal constituency in Imo state, Governor Rochas Okorocha, described the project as the realisation of the Late Governor Sam Mbakwe’s dream 30 years ago.

The Governor noted that the state government will fast track the completion of the school complex so that the first set of students can resume by December 2014.

When the Imo State University Owerri was established 3 decades ago by late Governor Sam Mbakwe, one of his visions was that the faculty of agriculture and veterinary medicine be situated at Mbaise-Ngorokpala area of the state to foster development and increase economic activities in the area but until the end of his tenure, the vision did not come to fruition.

The Vice Chancelor  of the university Professor Ukachukwu Awuzie, praised the efforts of the state government in fulfilling the dream, and thanked the governor for uplifting the education sector in the state



Owerri Federal Constituency Pledge Support To APC And Governor Okorocha

Rochas-Okorocha (1)Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Owerri Federal Constituency have pledged their undiluted support for the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha and the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2015 general elections.

During a solidarity rally organised by APC leaders from Owerri Federal constituency, at the Freedom Square in Owerri, the Imo State capital, they promised the Governor that come 2015 they would cast their votes and protect it to ensure that they keep him as their governor.

One after another, leaders from the Owerri Federal Constituency comprising of 3 Local Governments, Owerri North, Owerri West and Owerri Municipal mounted the stage. They called on the people of the constituency to support APC in the state come 2015.

They referred to the developmental projects executed by the Okorocha led administration within the last 3 years as achievements that speak volume about his competence.

While addressing the crowd, Governor Rochas Okorocha said that the All Progressives Congress was the only party that could deliver the dividends of democracy to the citizens and in the past 3 years, his administration has succeeded in breaking the jinx of underdevelopment and poverty in the state.

The Governor said that he would ensure that candidates would not be imposed on the people in all the elective offices.

As the process of filling the seats in different elective offices in 2015 gathers momentum, different political parties in the state have embarked on solidarity rallies soliciting support from the people in the coming election.

Nyanya Blast: APC Governors Set Up Trust Fund For Victims

Rochas-OkorochaThe governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are setting up a trust fund to support victims of Monday’s Bomb attack at the Nyanya Motor Park in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Victims of the bomb blast, which claimed 75 lives, are receiving treatment in various hospitals in the Federal Capital Territory.

At the National Hospital in Abuja on Wednesday, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, on behalf of other governors of the political party, announced the establishment of the trust fund.

He condemned the act, saying it is a dastardly act that must be condemned by all Nigerians.

“We have noticed that the increase in blood shedding in our nation is becoming worrisome and as leaders we believe that this is not a time to see what is wrong or who is wrong. It is a time that we must all close ranks to ensure the security of lives and property.

“We have also, out of our concern, decided to raise funds as the APC governors to support the families of the victims of this blast.

“We shall also join forces with other democrats to ensure that this bad story ends as quickly as possible,” Governor Okorocha said.

Also speaking at the occasion, Governor Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State appealed to Nigerians to team up with security agencies to combat the menace of terrorism in Nigeria.

He advised Nigerians to be observant and vigilant.

“We should not leave the issue of security in the hands of security operatives alone. Security should be everybody’s business. We should be more meticulous, careful and observant of any movement that is not in line with what we see on a day to day basis and report same to the police,” he said.


Imo PDP Cautions Okorocha Over Criticism Of Jonathan Administration

Ahead of President Goodluck Jonathan’s scheduled visit to Imo State on Friday, the Imo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has decried the level at which the State government has continuously denied the presence of Federal Government in terms of projects, infrastructure and programmes in Imo state.

At the party secretariat in Owerri the Imo State capital, a chieftain of the party in the state and member of the Federal Executive Council, Nigeria’s Foreign Minister, Professor Viola Onwuliri alleged that the state government, under the All progressive Congress (APC), in recent times had continued to criticise the Federal Government without any cause.

She said the claim by the state government that there was no federal presence in the state was untrue and a campaign of calumny. She insisted that the Federal Government, through the NDDC, Sure-P, UBEC, Foreign grants and Federal Allocation and many other avenues had done a lot in the state in terms of job creation, construction of quality roads, building of schools, hospitals and many empowerment programmes which were all under the transformation agenda of the Jonathan Led administration which is aimed at touching the lives of Imo people and the entire south east.

The foreign minister further said that the State governor, after 2 years in office, had not fulfilled his campaign promises.

“He has not made any positive change in the lives of Imo people,” Professor Onwuliri said.

She cautioned the State government to stop playing politics of bitterness and stay focused on delivering the dividends of democracy to Imo people.

Reacting to the allegations, the Imo State Commissioner for Information, Mr Theodore Ekechi, insisted that the Federal Government had continued to marginalise the state in terms of projects and presence in the state since the state Governor was of the opposition party.

He added that since governor Rochas Okorocha assumed office , visible landmark achievements had been recorded and that claims by the people’s Democratic Party were that of a sinking party being threatened by the achievements of the Okorocha led administration in just two years of office.

He added that what Governo Okorocha had achieved in two years of office, the 12 years of PDP administration in the state never achieved it.

He called on the people of the state to disregard any false claims by the PDP as the State government was resolute in changing the lives of Imo people.

Okorocha Donates Patrol Bikes To NSCDC

The Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha has donated 32 security and patrol motorbikes with inbuilt communication gadget to the Imo state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), under the ‘Imo My Pride Project’.

Addressing newsmen in Owerri, the Imo state capital, the state Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Adamu Soja, on behalf of the Commandant-General described gesture as a calculated one which is coming at a time when security is being tackled wholistically in the state.

He added that the implications of the Imo governor’s donations will also ensure the effective control of traffic in the state capital.

Mr Soja also noted that the bikes which are equipped with modern communication gadgets will be assigned to some of his officers that will be strategically deployed to handle cases of kidnapping, human trafficking, bag-snatching on motorcycles, tricycle criminalities and dangerous driving.

Meanwhile, the Director General of ‘Imo My Pride Project’ Mr Sunny Chiadi said the project of the Okorocha-led administration is aimed at changing the behavioural pattern of Imo citizens as regards obedience to traffic laws, cleanliness and complete removal of street hawkers in the state capital.

APC Will Serve The Political Fortunes Of Ndigbo– Okorocha

Imo State Governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha has defended his membership of the APC, declaring that the future political fortunes of Ndigbo are better served in the new mega political party.

Okorocha who sang the praises of the new party in a town hall of the Imo State Congress of America 2013 national convention in Atlanta, USA, also reacted to a purported suspension by a faction of APGA, saying that the wellbeing of Ndigbo remains paramount in all his action and would continue to take steps to assist Igbos to regain their rightful place in the political equation of Nigeria.

“APC remains the best vehicle to promote the interest of our people. PDP has marginalized the south east and has nothing to show for all its years in power”.

Governor Okorocha urged Ndigbo to embrace the APC because it guarantees equity and political opportunities denied by the ruling party. He said the purported action of a faction of APGA is of little political consequence as the party lacks the national spread to ensure Igbos make significant headway in the political leadership of the nation.

He described the APC as a national party made up of progressive elements determined to ensure equitable distribution of political offices to all tribes in the country and as one of the tripod on which the country stands, the APC was set to redress the injustices to Ndigbo made by the PDP and urged all progressives south easterners to line up behind the new party and ensure it produces the next leaders of the country at all levels.

“Igbos has not produced the President, Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House or the Chief Justice of the Federation but I am confident under APC, one or more of these positions will come to the southeast”.

Gov. Okorocha urged Ndigbo to channel their energies and resources towards the development of their homeland and suggested a set date for Nigerians in the diaspora to return home.

“Our people should learn to leave America and return home at a certain date to contribute meaningfully to the development of our dear state”.

He pledged the commitment of his administration towards providing enabling environment to assist those willing to return home.

“My administration has embarked on projects that have significantly improved infrastructure in the state and has tackled the issue of security such that for the past six months the issue of kidnapping and other social vices have reduced significantly”.

He challenged those really interested in tapping the potentials of the state to partner with his administration for mutual benefit.

The governor however warned Igbos in the diaspora to guard against greed and corruption, urging them to lend a hand to the less privileged in the society.

Okorocha’s Aide Replaces Impeached Deputy Governor

The Chief of Staff to the Governor of Imo State, Mr. Eze Madumere, has been cleared by the state House of Assembly to replace the impeached Deputy Governor, Jude Agbaso.

Mr. Madumere who was nominated by Governor Rochas Okorocha, was cleared by the lawmakers shortly after they impeached the former deputy governor, Mr. Agbaso.

The new deputy governor is expected to be sworn in on Friday at the Government House in Owerri, the Imo State capital.

Mr. Madumere before his appointment as the deputy governor was the Chief of Staff to Mr. Okorocha since the inception of his administration.

The former deputy governor was impeached on Thursday, hours after a state High Court dismissed his suit to stop his impeachment by the state Assembly.

Okorocha’s shock

Reacting to the impeachment of Mr Agbaso, Mr Okorocha said he is shocked at the removal.

Noting that he waded into Mr Agbaso crises, Mr Okorocha said it is regrettable that impeached deputy governor allowed the situation to degenerate, resulting in his impeachment by the state assembly.

He however wished him well in his subsequent endeavours while asking the new deputy governor  to help advance the Imo rescue agenda of the government.

S/East Actors Guild Calls On Kidnappers To Release Colleague

Following the Kidnap of Nollywood actress and Special Assistant on Public Affairs to Imo State Governor, Miss Nkiru Sylvanus, South East Chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria staged a peaceful protest in Owerri the state capital condemning the act and calling out to the kidnappers to release their colleague.

Led by the South East Vice Chaiman of the Guild, Iyke Ezenagu, members of the Association marched to the Government House where they called on the state government and other South East governors to provide adequate security for all actors in the region to enable them do their duties accordingly without fear of kidnap.

They however expressed displeasure over the spate of kidnapping of their members in the South East as Nkiru Sylvanus’s case is not the first of its kind.

However while addressing journalists earlier in the Government House, after the security council meeting, the Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha disclosed that the state government in conjunction with all the security operatives in the state are doing everything possible to rescue the light skinned actress alive as well as other people who have been abducted in the state.

Okorocha further re-iterated his government’s commitment in ensuring a crime and kidnap free Yuletide for all its citizens.

Imo state PDP rejects introduction of local security outfit

 The People’s Democratic Party in Imo state has criticized the introduction of local security outfit named Imo Security Network recently launched by the Imo state governor Rochas Okorocha.

The opposition party in says “it is unconstitutional and unacceptable by the party as it is an avenue to intimidate opposition parties in the state”.

State chairman of the party, Mr. Eze Duruiheoma (SAN), was speaking at a news conference at the party secretariat in Owerri the Imo state capital.

He said “the Imo Security Network introduced by the Okorocha led administration is supposed to work as a local vigilante group but rather their functions in the state is competing with that of the Nigerian Police Force in the state.

Duruiheoma added that it is unlawful for a local security outfit to be equipped with such arms, ammunitions and patrol vehicles as they are supposed to be civilians and not uniformed men.

He however called on all “Imolites” to oppose the introduction of the outfit as it is not in the interest of all Imo citizens.

He said “the security of lives and property of Imolites should be left in the hands of the security operatives in the state such as police, army and the SSS.

However, Governor Rochas Okorocha defended the introduction of the outfit saying “the launch of the security vigilance group is to sanitize the state and crush criminals, especially kidnappers”.
