Two Soldiers, 21 Bandits Killed In Zamfara



The Nigeria Army says two of its personnel and 21 armed bandits were killed during a gun duel in Zamfara State.

Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, revealed this in a statement on Thursday.

According to him, the gun battle occurred on Wednesday after troops of 232 Battalion Zuru on clearance patrol encountered the bandits at Tunga Daji in Anka Local Government Area of the state.

Brigadier General Chukwu, however, said the remains of the officer and the soldier have been evacuated to the Federal Medical Center, Gusau, in the state capital.

Items recovered from the bandits include five AK 47 rifles, one light machine gun, five magazines and 35 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

The Army spokesperson noted that despite the ugly incident, the morale of the soldiers remains high.

He also informed the public that troops have been mobilised on a special operation to “comb the general area and arrest any fleeing bandit.”

Gun Battle Reported At Afghanistan TV Station

Gunmen attacked a building of Afghan state television in the eastern city of Jalalabad on Wednesday and engaged in a gun battle with security forces, the provincial governor’s spokesman Attaullah Khughyani confirmed.

He added that it was not clear what the target was, but that there appeared to have been at least three attackers, who of whom had blown themselves up while at least one was still fighting. Heavy gunfire could be heard from around the building of RTA, Afghanistan’s national broadcaster, located close to the provincial governor’s compound.

Jalalabad is the capital of Nangarhar, the eastern province on the border with Pakistan where Islamic State fighters have established a stronghold, but there is also a strong Taliban presence in the region.

Insurgents fighting to oust the Western-backed government in Kabul have conducted a series of high-profile attacks this year on targets including Afghanistan’s largest military hospital and a military base in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif.

Police Kill Notorious Kidnap Kingpin, Robbery Suspect, Vampire

Police Special Forces, led by the IGP Intelligence Response Team (IRT) have killed notorious kidnap kingpin and armed robbery suspect, Henry Chibueze, also known as ‘Vampire’.

The wanted criminal met his waterloo early this morning at about 1AM on Thursday during a gunbattle with the IGP Intelligence Response Team in Omu Awa Forest,Ikwerre L.G.A. Rivers State.

Five other members of his gang were arrested alive and cache of arms and ammunition were recovered.

Recall that Vampire had escaped from Imo High Court premises following a shootout between gunmen and security operatives in Owerri, Imo State on January 27th.

In an attack that left several persons wounded,men suspected to be members of his gang attacked the operatives when Vampire and other inmates arrived at the premises of the Imo High Court in Owerri.

According to an eyewitness,the gunmen, over six of them, found their way into the court premises shortly after over 50 inmates were conveyed to court for hearing of various suits filed against them.

The gunmen opened fire on the security operatives and inmates at the court premises shooting sporadically into the air for over 10 minutes leaving several people wounded as Vampire and about eight other inmates escaped.

The Imo Governor, Rochas Okorocha promised a reward of Five million Naira to anyone with valuable information that can lead to the arrest of the escapee criminal.

11 Killed In Gun Battle Between Soldiers And Boko Haram

Nigerian_MilitarySoldiers have repelled an attack by  Boko Haram on Friday night as they attempted to invade Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

The insurgents came in their numbers around midnight through Dala, a suburb of the town but could not gain entrance because of the military trenches.

The soldiers engaged them in a fire exchange and they resorted to shelling from a distance into Maiduguri leaving eleven residents of the Gomari Airport area killed and many injured.

An entire household of five was killed while other victims met their death randomly.

The incidence which lasted through the night has thrown residents into panic and unease over the unknown .

Security Forces Kill 21 Suspected Terrorists In Fresh Damaturu Attack

The spokesman of the 3 Division Special Operation Battalion, Damaturu, Captain Eli Lazarus says 21 suspected members of the Boko Haram sect were killed in the gun battle with security forces that lasted over 8 hours Thursday, 24 October in Damaturu the Yobe State capital.

The spokesman in a statement today in Damaturu said 3 vehicles were also recovered from the insurgents during a severe encounter with the terrorists in various parts of Damaturu that lasted for several hours.

Other items recovered from the insurgents include; 4 AK47, 1 FN Rifle, 1 Rocket Propelled Grenade and 1 Rocket Propelled Grenade Bomb (RPG).

Others include;1 extra barrel of General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), several Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) and 709 rounds of assorted ammunition.

The statement says the 24 hour curfew earlier imposed on the state is to enable security forces pursue the fleeing terrorists and advised residents to obey the curfew time and to divulge relevant information to security agents for the restoration of peace in the state.

Witnesses however said the insurgents burnt down the official residence of the commandant of the Mopol 41 Damaturu among other residential houses in the Mopol Barracks before carting away some arms and ammunition from the Armoury.

Other areas destroyed according to witnesses include; the Police Criminal Investigative Department (CID) as well as the area command located in the heart of Damaturu town.

It was also gathered that some officers and men as well as women and children of the Yobe State Police Command may have been killed in the attack on the mobile base as RPG was launched into some residential houses of the police mobile base.

Hospital sources also said the insurgents went away with two ambulances of the Sani Abacha General Hospital Damaturu as well as assorted drugs during the coordinated attack.

The suspected Boko Haram sect had yesterday launched a coordinated attack in Damaturu first, with attack on the military check point close to the mega station to signal the commencement of the attack.

Boko Haram Strikes In Yobe Following Curfew Review

A 24-hour curfew has been imposed on Yobe state following a fresh attack by the Islamic sect, Boko Haram, on Damaturu, the state capital, on Thursday.

The insurgent group reportedly launched the attack on Thursday evening and it lasted from 5:30pm local time till midnight. Security operatives were said to have responded promptly.

Witnesses told Channels Television that the group first launched attack around the NNPC Mega station suburb of Damaturu to signal their presence before penetrating the town a little later.

Residents said gun shots and Improvise Explosive Devices (IED) were heard across all the nook and crannies of the town.

The spokesman of the 3 Division Special Operation Battalion in Yobe state, Captain Eli Lazarus who confirmed the attack said that security forces in the state capital were involved in a gun battle with the insurgents.

Shortly after the confirmation of the attack, Captain Eli Lazarus issued a statement disclosing that a 24-hour curfew had been imposed across Yobe state with immediate effect as the battalion continued its operation to rid the state of insurgents.

Early on Thursday, Captain Eli Lazarus had announced that a review of the curfew had been approved.

The 3 Division Special Operation Battalion Damaturu had reviewed the curfew time in Potiskum town between the hours of 10PM – 6:00 AM to a new time frame, 9: PM – 6: 00 AM. However, last night’s attack has now led to the return of a 24-hour curfew.

Although security forces are yet to confirm the level of casualties or destruction caused by the attack which lasted for over eight hours, Captain Lazarus has urged law abiding citizens to remain calm and to accord the security operatives the usual cooperation.



Imo Police Rescues 72 Year-Old From Suspected Kidnappers

The Imo State police command has rescued a 72 year-old man; Mr Emmanuel Ujagba who was alleged to have been kidnapped by some unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers in Umuebele Okporo in Orlu Local Government Area.

While parading the bodies of the suspected kidnappers at the Command Headquarters in Owerri the Imo State capital, the Imo State Commissioner for Police; Mohammed Katsina speaking through the Deputy Public Relations Officer; Mr Elvis Abanga said when the information reached them that a 72 year-old man was kidnapped in his residence, the ambush squad of the command immediately went into action to rescue the old man alive, but the Police had to engage the suspected kidnappers in a gun duel and in the process three members of the gang were gunned down while one of them escaped with serious bullet wound.

He added that items recovered from the hoodlums are 2 AK 47 rifles, one single barrel gun cut to size with 2 live cartridges and 120 expended ammunition.

He however cautioned members of the public to be vigilant and remain calm as the Imo State Police command under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Mohammed Katsina is determined more than ever to combat crime and every other criminal related activities in the state.

Army Downplays Casualty Figure Of Recent Borno Attack

The Defence Headquarters has reacted to the news all over the media that a gun duel between soldiers and the members of the Islamic militant sect Boko Haram has left almost 200 people dead.

The Director Defence Information, Brigadier General Chris Kolade told journalists in Abuja that the information from the Defence Headquarters operations unit suggest that only 25 members of the insurgence were killed while the military lost one solider.

He further stated that the intervention of the military followed a distress call by villagers in the fishing community of Baga on Lake Chad in the northeast Nigeria.

He however did not comment on the civilian casualties in the incidence.

Reports in the media suggests that as many as 185 people have died in the gun duel between members of the Nigerian Armed Forces and members of the Islamic militant group Boko Haram.

Gunmen Storm Church During Service in Maiduguri

Gunmen suspected to be the radical Islamic sect; Boko Haram today launched an attack on a local Church of the Brethren- Ekilisiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria (EYN) in Maiduguri the Borno State capital while the Sunday service was in progress.

Today’s incident marks the first time that an attack will be launched on a church in the Maiduguri metropolis in broad daylight during Sunday service since the Boko Haram insurgence heightened in the area.

Worshippers said the gunmen numbering about five came to the church area located at Bulunkutu ward in the metropolis in a tricycle at about 11a.m and opened fire directly into the church targeting the worshippers when the sermon was being delivered.

They wondered how the gunmen could dare the soldiers in front of the church to launch such attack.

Spokesman of the Joint Task Force (JTF), Lt Col Sagir Musa who confirmed the incident said the troops at the church post immediately repelled the attack.

“They came firing into the church area but our men at the post rose to the occasion and fired back at them. We successfully repelled the attack and the gunmen fled immediately”

He revealed that a police attached to the JTF was hit by bullet but has been treated and discharged from the hospital.

One Killed, 2 Suspected Terrorists Arrested In Kano

The Police Public Relations Officer in Kano state Magaji Musa Majiya has confirmed the death of one suspected terrorist while two others were arrested after a gun battle at Minjibir Local Government’s divisional police headquarters.

Confirming the incident this morning, the Mr. Majiya revealed that at about 8pm on Friday, some gunmen attempted to attack a police division in Minjibir but were repelled by the officers on duty.

“They came on motor cycle and tricycle amidst gunshot on our policemen on duty but in the process one of them was shot dead.” He said.

Police officers on duty successfully arrested two of the suspects along with their ammunition.

“Also while they were running to safety, our team of police officers ambushed them and arrested two of them together with their AK47 rifles.” Mr. Majiya stated.

Majiya further confirmed that no police officer or civilian was caught in the cross fire and affirmed that investigation has already commenced in the area to apprehend their accomplices.
