Ondo Govt. Promises To Provide Conducive Environment For Public Schools

The Secretary of Ondo State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), Dr. Mrs Arinola Akinsete has said that various challenges facing the public secondary schools in Ondo state would be taken care of as soon as possible by the state government.

She hinted this while addressing some Education Managers and Teachers during an inspection tour to the public secondary schools where the West African School Certificate Examinations (WAEC) are ongoing.

In a statement issued to newsmen by the Head of Press and Public Relations Unit of the Commission, Mr Goodluck Akinyomi, the Commission’s Secretary stated that one of the priorities of Governor Akeredolu’s led administration in the State is to create enabling environment for standard and uninterrupted teaching and learning process in the public secondary schools.

Akinsete who further stressed that the state government would not cease in committing a handsome amount for the development of the Secondary Education, reiterated the need for regular inspections and monitoring of schools so as to regularly and adequately keep teachers on their toes to enhance effectiveness and efficiency.

She expressed her satisfaction over the good conducts, comportment and arrangement of the students in all the examination centres visited.

The Secretary advised school Principals to always consult with relevant stakeholders for them to assist in developing the schools as government could not do it all alone.

The Principal, Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School, Akure, Mrs Taye Bola, assured the government of better service delivery, especially now that teachers’ salaries are regular.

Schools visited during the inspection exercise include: Fiwasaye Girls Grammar School, Akure, Uso Grammar School, Uso, Imade College, Owo, St. Catherine Girls High School, Owo, Victory College, Ikare- Akoko, Mount. Carmel Secondary School, Ikare – Akoko among others.

Armed Robbers Raid Bank In Ondo, Kill 19

Borno AttackTwo sets of deadly Armed robbers have invaded a branch of an old generation bank in Ikare-Akoko, the headquarters of Akoko North East Local Government Area in the northern part of Ondo State killing 19 persons, including four policemen.

The robbers who were suspected to belong to the same gang simultaneously attacked the bank located at Jubilee area of the town.

They also attacked the police station located along Owo Road apparently to prevent the officers there from foiling their operations at the bank.

An unspecified amount of money was said to have been carted away by the robbers after an operation that lasted for over an hour. The robbers also killed a driver whose car they snatched in order to escape.

Eyewitness said that the robbers, who were dressed in military camouflage uniform, launched the attack at about 3:00pm, local time, after they had blew open the bank’s gate with an explosive device.

Thereafter, started shooting everyone in sight including three persons who were withdrawing money at the ATM machines outside the bank.

Inside the bank, customers were ordered to lie face down, while they were robbed of their cash and other belongings, while the bank’s vault was also forced open by the robbers. About 11 persons were said to have been shot dead in the crowded banking hall.

When contacted, the spokesman for the Ondo State Police Command, Wole Ogodo, said he had not been fully briefed about the robbery. He said he was at the Akure local airport to ensure the safe departure of President Goodluck Jonathan who was going to Ado-Ekiti for political campaign in Ekiti State.
